I purchased this to download compact flash cards from my 7D. I do video work on the 7D and needed a way to quickly download the footage to free up my compact flash cards for more shooting. After looking at the reviews, I decided to go with this one since I didn't really need an LCD screen to view pictures of the downloaded footage.
The downloading of the compact flash cards was extremely quick. I think the spec sheet says 40 seconds per GB, but it seemed like it was a little faster than that for me. But that seems pretty accurate which is great when you consider you have 48 minutes of video on a 16GB compact flash card and it downloads in less than 10 minutes. It seems sturdy and like it will last a long time, but again, I haven't put it to the extreme test. My first few times using it, I only loaded around 80 GB of data onto the hard drive, but it handled it well. Also, the speed of unloading the footage from the hard drive seemed extremely fast as well, even using USB 2.0 technology.
I only have two complaints about this item. The first is that it is completely operated by one button. They have a neat system in place to navigate relatively easily, but it seems like it would have been a bit better to have some smaller buttons on the side to navigate the menu, but I guess less parts means less to break.
The second is that the battery life is good, but it isn't great. The spec sheet says that you can download about 60GB of footage on a fully charged battery which is really not a lot of battery time. I had it plugged in at various times of the day when I first used it so I wouldn't run into any problems, so I am not sure how accurate this is, but they do make a battery add on that you can buy for it as well, so that may be an option for those needing it.
Despite that one personal complaint, I can't find anything wrong with this item. It is solid, lots of space at a great price and is EXTREMELY fast. It is a solid solution.

When I first purchased this item. I loved it. It downloaded footage from my compact flash card ultra fast and I never had any problems with it. Then, about 13 months after I purchased, it stopped holding a charge. I could leave it charging for hours and it would say it was fully charged, then I would go to download a 16 gig card on to the device and it would give me a dead battery indicator about 5 minutes into the transfer and then fail. So I would have to find a power outlet and plug the device in. Now, the only way I can use it is by keeping the device constantly plugged in, which needless to say is not suitable. Going to see if Nexto will work with me on a warranty replacement, because I only used it maybe 17 weekends that first year and then it quit on me. Needless to say, if they are unwilling to give me a warranty replacement, I would not invest in their product any more. Clearly not worth [$] for one one year's worth of usage.

Comments about Nexto DI Nexto eXtreme (500GB):
I got this device as a backup device for my photos on a trip to Mexico. It help up very well.
On the good side it downloads quickly and is pretty intuitive about what you want to do when you insert cards or connect it to other devices. It also has 500GB of space which is great.
The only cons are that it is difficult to navigate. You only have one button so you have to use short and long clicks to try and navigate. And you can't see any of the images for verification. The other con is that the casing is a bit chinsy.
It was reliable and worked well.

this is a lightweight, stripped-down backup drive that I use in the field to secure my photos. it has the basics, and a 1-button operation. you cannot review the photos (no screen), and the single button to control everything is not as desirable as multiple, but for the ruggedness, the drive capacity and cost, it's great.

We are headed for an Alaskan cruise and I was concerned about taking Pictures and HD Camcorder Videos and having a place to store them. I didn't want to load all of that on our laptop computer so I searched the Internet and found another device. Was on the Chat with a Technical Specialist at B&H and they suggested I look at the Nexto Extreme...Boy, am I glad I did. It was half the price of the other item with more memory (I got the 500GB). It arrived today and works like a Snap. Awesome Product!

Comments about Nexto DI Nexto eXtreme (500GB):
I purchased this in preparing for a backpack trip. Note I have not used it extensively yet but my pre-trip reactions and preliminary tests are all positive. My first reaction was delight at how small it is. It's almost as wide as my palm (minus my thumb) and height-wise it goes from the base of my hand to my knuckles. It's got super fast transfers. I moved gigabytes of data in a matter of minutes, and that's faster than my memory cards transfer to my laptop. :)It's a simple design that works. I've tested it with CF cards and it has the option to copy the data or move the data (which deletes it from the memory card after transfer) which is pretty nice.I even tried inserting the card again after a copy and the Nexto drive displayed, "Same Data, Verify?" Smart. You can copy it again anyway and it will create duplicate files in different folder. The screen shows you a list of files and folders you can navigate through. The Nexto has one button. You choose (S) short press or (L) long press and the onscreen menu shows what those options are. It's something like: a short press to cycle between files and long press to select that file. Then short press to cycle between options -copy, delete, etc.- and long press to select that option. As you see it can be a bit of manual navigating, but it's simple enough. (You don't see the picture itself, just the filename, so if you want that option you should look for another item, but from my research those tend to be bigger and clunky. It's a trade-off. If you want something smaller, lighter, and simpler for straight backup purposes, Nexto is your beast.)By the way, if you select 'delete' or 'format the drive' it asks you to confirm twice, each with a (L) long press, so it's hard to accidentally do it. Nice touch. It even lets you copy files back onto the CF card, so if you want to move things back and forth on the field, you have freedom to do so!When it's copying files the button light switches colors to let you know it's "working," and it beeps when it's done, with an onscreen message "X files copied. Remove CF Card."The process is so simple it's beautiful. It copies JPGs and NEFs (Nikon raw files) just fine. And it's quiet. Really quiet. It comes with a nice black carrying case with a strap on the back that you can loop through your belt.I can't say enough about this product for my pre-trip review and I will write more after few months of use. :)It's just what I was looking for. Small, portable, quick transfers, lots of space, easy to use, and it's so quiet!

Comments about Nexto DI Nexto eXtreme (500GB):
I bought this device to wrangle CF and SDHC cards for a week long shoot with little access to power. It easily handled the needs of our photographer and I was pleasantly surprised to discover I could use my Sony XDCAM camera to copy footage from an SxS card to an SDHC card and then have it backed up on the Nexto. The Nexto device handled all the files and folders just fine.
Another great feature is the optional beep for when the backup is completed. For long copy operations, I could do other things and not have to monitor the progress. This made wrangling efficient.
I was originally going to get the extra battery but after testing the device, I was copying 64GB of data and still had a full battery indicator.
Another surprise bonus was that I could hook up my TM-700 camera via USB and it backed it up directly from the camera's built-in memory. It also backed up a USB hard disk I had. YMMV
Lastly, I schlepped this well padded in a backpack that was tossed around in the back of trucks and it survived without a hitch. High marks to Nexto on this device.
The one minus is that it's not hard to imagine accidently deleting files through fatigue. I would have preferred a way to disable the formatting function. This device is inexpensive enough to get two.

I needed a portable device at a reasonable price to dump all the images from the weddings I shoot - sometimes upwards of 4000 images. I used to own another product but it did not store enough data and the next larger hard drive was prohibitively expensive so I needed another solution. This is it. The controls are rudimentary and simple... but it works! and when you have already dumped a card it tells you. It makes me nervous that I can not see the file names to make extra sure that every file is there.... but I will get over that real soon. The only true downside is that the battery does not last all evening. I had to recharge it twice in one night to get all 19 cards dumped. Even with that...I definitely recommend this device.

Comments about Nexto DI Nexto eXtreme (500GB):
When using DSLR cameras, the need for a safe and reliable backup solution is very important. If you have access to a computer, backing up your data is easy, but during longer trips you really need to find a stable solution for making sure your footage is securely backed up.
After buying the Nexto eXtreme, I used it during a five day trip to Brazil, shooting interviews and short films with a Canon DSLR. I could never rely on being able to find a computer to back up my memory cards with, but the Nexto saved the day om several occasions.
I worked with two 16gb cards, and as soon as one got full I would pop it into the Nexto and continue shooting on the next card while the first was being copied. Later I would do a full backup from the Nexto onto an external drive, and that way have two separate backups of all my data.
At this price, you really can't complain. The device is fast, reliable and easy to use. It feels a bit light and plastic, and probably wouldn't survive a fall very well, but other than that it's a pure joy.

I did not yet used it thoroughly, but from what I tryed, it proves to be a quite reliable storage device, offering several convenient fonctions and choices through the different menus. The device may seem complicated to operate at first sight, but once you caught the way to manage it, you realize how easy it is to operate, thanks to understandable commands. The only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the LCD screen, too small compared to other similar devices. It takes sharp eyes (or very good glasses)to read the menus.

This device is SO easy to master and will be invaluable when I'm out in the field shooting RAW and JPEG as my CF cards will fill quickly. It is easy to download from the camera to the Nexto, and from the Nexto to the computer, and it is all achieved with long and short bursts on the button. I also got a car charger as I thought this would be useful when I'm in the field; and a case. There is a case in the box but it is enclosed and would mean that you would need to remove the Nexto in order to download the images. The additional accessory case has the 'cut out' so that you can see what is going on when you are downloading and uploading and you can also charge the device without removing it. All in all, this is a fantastic, must have, product with heaps of storage at a fabulous price.

I use for back up video&photos (from my canon 5d mark II)while on assignment in the mountain. Great device, like very much the speed (it is so much faster than my previous Hyperdrive 80) and the verify function. The battery seems to last very long, but I´d prefer to have AA batteries since they are replaceable. I tried untill 5.600m high and works OK. After that altitude hard disks can fail. Like the capability to extend up to 2TB the hard disk. Had a problem trying to backup a memory stick from a Sony handycam, in fact I could´n do it, but the manual says it works.

This is an excellent device for storing photo / video files by downloading from memory cards "in the field".
It is well built and fast in transferring files from all types of memory cards. The files are transferred intact and there is even a checksum system to make sure files are not corrupted.
I have used it to transfer jpeg and RAW photo files, as well as .avi, .mov, and AVCHD video files with no problems whatsoever.
The interface is simple and straightforward. The housing is solid metal (not cheap plastic), and it runs for a long time on a single charge.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who takes hundreds of pictures and doesn't want to haul their laptop with them for permanent storage. Ideal for trips, as it weighs only a few ounces.
I only wish it had a screen like the Epson P7000, but it is faster than the Epson in downloading files.
