Comments about Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder:
We bought this to record our worship services in order to be able to put the sermons up on the internet. We are very impressed with its ability to record and playback with great clarity - both the sermon and the music. We just simply put it on a small piece of foam on a table in the front of the sanctuary. It does not have to be hooked into the sound system. We (especially our very musically inclined members) continue to be amazed by the ability of this recorder. Also the software included for editing works very well and takes very little effort to get comfortable with.

Comments about Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder:
Pros: Small and lightweight. Great for recording a classroom lecture and live music. Easy-to-read light up display. Comes with batteries, USB cables, headphones, nice software for editing, and more.
Cons: Comes with a cheap soft-cloth cover. Hard to navigate menus / options (it does have an informative manual, though.) Can't save your recording settings to go from recording a lecture to recording music.
Still a five star product! As soon as I did a recording session at one of my band practices and listened to the results, I was in love. The editing software is easy to use and the quality of the sound is awesome. The sounds have lots of depth and every instrument is distinguishable (ex: You can hear each hand-drum.) Even the lectures I've recorded sound clear.

Recording the lecture gets really high quality voice. Also it has mp3 output, which is easiler for those computer rookies.

Comments about Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder:
I use this light-weight, small enough for a shirt pocket, to record lectures, memos, reminders, dictation (for automatic speech-to-text transcription, and, occasionally, high quality sound or live music for video or web work. Its capacity and ease of use are reasonably good. I suspect its plastic case won't be as sturdy as the metal case of the very old ICD-SX25 it is replacing. The huge number of different recording formats are excellent and the 5 separate folders are an improvement of the older unit. Since I use the recorder for so many different kinds of applications, I wish each folder could be pre-assigned with a recording mode specific to an application: highest quality for live music, high-sensitivity, high-directionality, mono, medium quality for capturing lectures for later review, etc. There are so many addressable features that resetting them every time a task changes is sometimes daunting. The display is a very good one, even displaying stereo dB levels during recording, but I prefer the simpler body design of the older model -- I find the newer style with its "Micky Mouse" ears a little flashy and less discreet. On the other hand, it caused a student of mine to positively salivate with envy. It is, I think, a powerful and flexible tool and very good value.
Comments about Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder:
I like Sony in general and this recorder doesn't disappoint me yet. Easy to use with some nice, semi-pro or even professional features such as sound level limiters, but with not a professional audio quality. Over all if you want an affordable and good sound quality digital recorder, even for a professional as a back up or an additional audio source, Sony ICD-SX700 might be a good option for you. I am giving it 4 starts only because I wish to get better sound quality and hope Sony will manage to squeeze in a small body great recording device.

Comments about Sony ICD-SX700 Digital Voice Recorder:
I bought this Sony to record the service at our church and got a shockingly good recording out of the built-in stereo microphone by setting the recorder on a chair in the front row. I'm sure the quality will be even better with a lapel microphone plugged in, but it was fine for a podcast of the sermon, and the music sounded pretty good too. I like the fact that I can easily download the mp3 to my computer and our website. Editing the recording with built in features was easy, though I am not tech-savvy enough to be able to do it without the user's manual. I can also say that it's durable, as I dropped it on the pavement once, but there are no visible signs of damage and it still works fine. Gripes: controls are necessarily small, as is the display, and the case doesn't really hold the recorder in (no zipper or velcro closure). Otherwise, this seems like a well-designed and well-built recorder for a decent price.

Voice recorder has a great design, and has great functions. A lot of the useful features are limited to the lowest recording setting. But overall very happy with it.
