Comments about Davis & Sanford ATPX10 All Terrain Pod with Fluid Head:
A friend of mine brought along this tripod for some photography work that we were doing in Yosemite this last weekend and I was pretty impressed so i decided to purchase it as a spare and write a review. It suffices as a pretty good photo tripod for the money not the best but I liked it. You can really expand this thing, through the midlevel spreader, and get it to fan out pretty wide, giving really steady support. However I wouldn't purchase it for photo, I'd purchase it for VIDEO/FILM like I did. The head is oh so nice, giving a really top quality pan/tilt with no jitters making it for real smooth shooting. Along with numbers on the head to measure your movements. But the thing I found most INTRESTING WAS IT CAN BE USED A STEDY-POD type of device. The center column removes and the 2 tripod pan/tilt handles (side note: only one is used to pan and tilt, while the other is mostly for photo to rotate the camera to portrait framing) become a balance point to hold on to and keep the film camera steady. And u can not only do vertical shooting with the removable center column but also horizontal with the turn of a handle. Not to say its perfect steadicam flow, but its really useful. Lets say your shooting, all hooked in to the tripod and bam, u gotta unhook and do handheld shooting, well u just loosen the inner center column and it pulls right out with the head attached and your hand held with a great deal of support and steadiness. Its a really top quality tripod and i purchase any day over most expensive priced models. The only hinder is the nobs to loosen and tighten the legs. There a mix between filp levers and twist column legs. That the only neg I'd say. Overall its real top quality and I'd buy.
