The picture on the webpage does not do justice to the attractiveness and good build quality of this portable XGA projector, especially given the bargain price. It is very professional looking and its slim form factor makes it truely portable. Despite being small, it does not look cheap and it will impress your audience.

This projector is small and light enough to fit in most medium sized laptop cases, along with a small laptop and cables. Or it can be carried with its remote and cables in its own case.

Initial set up is pretty straightforard in "Auto" mode, which sets up the picture based on the input and also corrects the keystone. The focus and manual zoom rings are very easy to use.

The default picture is bright and pleasing, but it is necessary to navigate through the menu system to optimize the picture based on your preferences. Unfortunately, the supplied hard copy manual is basic and you need to install the soft-copy in the supplied CD-ROM to get to the advanced menu features.

I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent picture quality. It throws a bright, sharp picture, with excellent color saturation. Initially I found the color balance a tad too much on the green side, but was able to adjust it manually with a third-party video-setup DVD.

For home theater use you can connect it to a DVD player via component video using a third-party component video to VGA adapter, which you can find on-line for as low as $10. You can also connect it via S-Video using a Sanyo S-Video to VGA adapter (POA-CAVGAS), which is rather expensive. Although the contrast ratio is only 400:1, I found it was surprisingly good in its ability to display black levels, especially after tweaking the contrast and gamma levels. Its ability to display black levels is just a tad shy of my Infocus X1 DLP projector (which has 2000:1 contrast ratio). The difference in black levels between the two projectors is actually barely discernable when there is the smallest amount of ambient light.

Having said that, I feel the best use of this LCD projector is for computer presentations. I feel that LCD has the edge for PowerPoint, but DLP is better (i.e., more "film like") for home theater.

The other reviewer mentioned fan noise. In my opinion, at the normal setting the fan did not seem any louder than the sound from my Infocus X1 (which is by no means excessive or distracting). However, in "Eco" mode, which reduces brightness to 1,700 lumens, the fan noise drops and becomes a non-issue.

Given its compact size, native XGA resolution, 2,000 ANSI lumen output, and excellent picture quality, I feel no other projector at this price level can match this little Sanyo for its quality and versatility.

I run an art gallery. We needed some cheap video projectors for looped video installation.

The best thing about the unit is the price. You won't find anything better for the money. Picture is fine, 2000 lumens is good as long as there in no sunlight. Controls are easy enough to understand.

Problems are mainly with the keystone. Keystone range is very limited, so you have to hang the projectors really low for ceiling mounting. Auto-keystone is really inaccurate, so you have to keystone manually. And once you turn it off it resets to the auto-keystone, so you have to reset it each time.

Great screen image, great buy

Pros

  • Full-function remote
  • Sharp even screen image
  • Sturdy quality case

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Business Presentations
    • Software demonstrations

This PLC-XW60 isn't the very latest model in Sanyo's line, but that makes it a great buy. The LCD technology is very current, the unit is very well constructed, the controls are easy to use and the manual is very good. Most important, it projects a very clear, sharp, bright, even image. The remote control is full-function including a "suspend" mode that lets you change apps, PowerPoint files, etc. without distracting the audience.

    • Light Weight

    Cons

    • Mediocre image resolution

    Best Uses

    • Presentations with words

I used this projector to give a powerpoint presentation that included photographs and drawings. The images weren't as crisp as I would have liked; they look much better on my computer screen. Nonetheless, I thought that the quality was certainly good enough to get my point across. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a projector. Had I been more concerned about image quality, then I would have bought a more expensive projector.

I ordered the projector as i have about 5 big presentations of a video in the next couple months, and after doing the math, it would have been reasonable to buy a projector instead of rent it, but i didn't want to spend a fortune. i found this little piece of equipment that is excellent. it is incredibly user friendly and simple to use, yet has the brightness of a more expensive rival. it is a bit loud but for the most part it isnt much louder than a PC Tower or any other cooling fan. So it is a great product, for a price that is much lower than the competition, GREAT DEAL!!!!!

    Best Uses

I purchased this projector to replace one that cost $2,700, which went missing from our office. I was at first skeptical that the resolution and picture would be sufficient to show on a large screen to a large audience.

After unpacking the unit and hooking it up to my laptop, I was amazed at the brillance and clarity of the picture. it far surpassed our old expensive unit. Attendees were astounded when I told them how much I paid for the projector and received many compliments on the presentation.

      I highly recommend this projector!

Excellent image quality including color rendition.
Big joy was the excellent user manual and set up instruction. Only a few uses so far ---but I'm very hopeful.
Replacement bulb costs on all these projectors is scary.

I searched for a lot of projectors, and this one had all the necessary connections, a decent lumens rating and excellent price. Includes a remote with a button that lets you blank out screen to cover you finding your file or presentation. Really compact also which is great. It does run hot though, fan has to stay on for a few minutes after turning it off to cool down, otherwise excellent value.

A remote that doesn't advance slides?

      By Lisa

      from Phila, PA

      Verified Buyer

We are a non-profit org with a big annual meeting. This year, the hotel was going to charge us $250/day for a projector, so we decided to buy our own. (By the 2nd day, we were already ahead $100!)

This is a fine little basic projector - did a good job in a big room with the lights on. BUT - the remote does not advance slides. What is the point of a remote that doesn't?
