The ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter is a unique flash adapter that will convert your Nikon SB-900 Speedlight unit into a ringlight flash. It is for use on Nikon D1, D2, D3, and D700 DSLRs. It simply slips over the front of the flash unit, and will fit any lens with a front diameter of no more than 4". It will replicate the lighting effect produced by traditional, expensive, and heavy powered studio ring flash units.
The light distribution is accomplished through a sophisticated system of internal prisms, reflectors and light-shapers designed to distribute and project the light evenly around the lens. Because the Ring Flash Adapter relies on the hot-shoe flash to generate its light, it contains no electronics, no flash tubes and requires no cumbersome cables. And in addition, TTL operation works exactly the same as with the flash itself.
The Ring Flash Adapter is ideally suited for fashion, wedding, portrait, journalist and macro photography as either a main or fill-in light.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Nikon SB-900 to D1/D2/D3/D700:
The Flash Ring Adapter works great. I have been using it to take close-up pictures of our new grandchild, coupled with a 60 MM lens.
This would be 5 stars, if some kind of case was included. It is very difficult to store at the moment.

I am a professional wedding photographer and must say "I can't believe I didn't get this when I had the chance". This ring flash has made our detail shots so much more detailed than ever before. We shoot wedding rings, tables and occasionally people with it. We have a dedicated ring flash that we use in the studio but this is so convenient and we don't have to lug around the big ring flash for simple shots like details, children and most portraits on location.

I use the ring flash to make shadowless macro-photographs and portraits with very pleasing catch lights in the eye.

I use this ring flash as both a main light as well as a fill light. I find that it produces a nice even light on my subject. For the price this is a good value; far cheaper than a dedicated ring flash.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Nikon SB-900 to D1/D2/D3/D700:
A nice concept, and functions well as a basic ring flash. Fit was reasonable and it didn't feel too flimsy. Light was fairly even.
Storage is difficult. My purpose in getting it was to have a portable unit, but it doesn't come with a case or sleeve to protect it. I can fit it into my large old AW Rover backpack, but I'm afraid it'll break.
My biggest disappointment was how poorly it works with Nikon CLS. The light loss and the directionality make it very hard for other flashes to see it. As I intended to use this as a fill light, this makes it somewhat useless. In a fairly dim indoor room the other flash would fire about 90% of the time. In a brighter room, maybe 60%. Outdoors it was 0%, even after sunset. Since it requires a flash to be stuck in the hot shoe, I can't use a radio trigger of SU-800.

When I unpack it I instantanly love the ligth it does. It's like the light come from your subjet. I can't wait to shoot again with it.
I us it with D700/SB-900. It fit perfect on the camera (lens is in the center). I just need to use the little plastic torn to fixe the angle of the flash. But is little big and heavy. There a possibility that it's broke my flash if I drop my camera (but it will probably the case without). A Nikon lens 12-24mm f4 fith well with the hood. With long lens zooming is difficult because the camera is heavier and you have less place for you hand. With my Nikon lens 70-300mm f4,5-5,6 without the hood it's the feelling that I had but this thing is not primarily long range shoot.
I love it !
