Comments about Astatic AS930VPL Variable Pattern Surface Mounted Boundary Microphone:
I discovered these microphones while working in video production at a private university where these were available for student checkout.
These mics are so sensitive you can't use them for PA's work because they pick up the PA and cause feedback, but they are great for recording a lecture or voiceover digitally. They are also great for connecting to a video camera with Phantom Power and XLR inputs, like the Canon XLH1s, XL2, or Sony ZxU family. They work as a great compliment to a shotgun mic recording to tape on one channel, with the 930VP recording to the other channel. In post, both mono channels can be panned to Stereo to create a very rich and full sound.
This mic comes with an incredibly long cord the variable polar pattern is a great plus!
