The Nikon D5000 (Body Only) digital SLR incorporates numerous pro-quality imaging technologies normally found in pricier Nikon DSLRs in a smaller, less-expensive Nikon DX-format camera body. Key among these features are the same 12.9 megapixel CMOS sensor found in the Nikon D90, High-Definition video capture (with sound), a 2.7" variable-angle LCD, Live View for composing stills or video from most any point-of-view, an 11-point autofocus system with Focus Tracking, and 3D Color Matrix II metering.
Other advanced Nikon features found in the D5000 include the ability to shoot in RAW, 3 levels of JPEG compression, or RAW+JPEG image capture, burst-rates up to 4 fps, an EXPEED image processor, and a 3-tier dust-removal system.
AVI-format video clips can be captured at 3 levels of compression in lengths up to 20 minutes with the ability to apply exposure compensation when shooting in Program, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, and Manual modes.
Depending on your needs, exposure information along with a grid screen for image composition can be displayed on the camera's multi-position LCD when shooting in Live View mode.
The Nikon D5000 is optimized for use with all AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR lenses and works with select functionality when used with Nikon Type G, D, AI-P, and non-CPU-series optics.

I got this as a replacement camera for my wife's D-100. We take cameras everywhere we go and this is much easier to manage than my D2x. I thought it would make a nice Christmas Present for my wife. Its a great little camera. Menus are intuitive. similar to my D2x. It takes great short videos. There are a lot of camera presets available for different subjects that are easy to use and understand. Tons of professional features in a very tiny package.
With both of us shooting with Nikons already, we had over a half dozen high-end Nikon lens' so I just purchased the body. Unfortunately most of our lens arsinal didnt work with this camera, you need to have an AF-S or it won't autofocus.
The on-camera flash is small and works as well as to be expected. Better results and more control if you get a speedlight

Well, I bought this camera seeing Nikon's new SLR. I got a camera that was more of a point and shoot that had the upgrade of interchangeable lenses. If what you are looking for is a beginner SLR, then you have found it. But if what you want is an advanced camera for the more knowledgeable photo shooter, then this isn't your camera. Video is also limited to 5 minutes in HD mode. It's good for what a point and shoot is good for just with a bigger lens range. Would I recommend to a friend? It depends what they are looking for.

After much research on the camera and the seller I purchased a factory refurbished camera and lense for my wife as a christmas gift. We couldn't be happier with the product and service provided. The camera is very user friendly as described. I already referred a friend who also purchased from your store. Buy here without hesitation!
Thanks B&H

I bought this Nikon DSLR for a family member - but being a long time Nikon photographer, I tried it out before giving it away. This camera has lots of features that make it a great learning camera - the LCD is large, bright and the swivel is handy. Nice pictures, good resolution - happy with my purchase.

I'm no pro, but I wanted a camera that took nice portraits. So far, I'm thrilled with that and more. There's a rumor that it will take 4 fps, something I haven't yet figured out, but I really like having the flip screen, for different angles AND for protecting the LCD. I have no complaints.

I bought for my dad the D7000 months ago and now i just purchased the D5000 for myself. What can i say ! BH is a place for any person who loves Photography. BH needs to open a new franchise in Houston TX. Did you know that most of the Photographers are from Texas (US only). The products are very nice. I love them.

We use the D5000 in my yearbook class. The students find it easy to use and the quality of the pictures are crisp. The students prefer this camera over the other brands we have. They actually run to get to the camera to be the first to use.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera (Camera Body):
My wife and I purchased this camera as a wedding gift to ourselves so that we can have some better than point and shoot pictures of our life together. Naturally one of our favorite features has been the wireless remote shutter release which was not well advertized. We picked up a remote for cheep online. It's worked great when we've wanted to snap off several photos of us together without anyone else helping, and without having to running back and forth to the camera. My wife is taking a photography class at school, and it's really working well for her. It's noteworthy that the instructor praised the camera. We've been very pleased with the camera. One thing we're not looking forward to is that you have to buy lenses with built in auto focus motors because there is no motor on the body, but we don't plan on buying many lenses. Oh one more thing that I noticed is that when you use the screen instead of the eye piece while taking photos, the photos often seem to be blurred...

I bought a Nikon D5000 with 18-55 mm lense. Great camera with a very quick shutter speed, and many options for a great upgrade from a point and shoot. B&H delivered everything they said they would at the price I was originally given. My product arrived to my house in perfect condition in 2 days! There online customer service was quick and accurate. Will be using B&H again.

I am extremely happpy with this upgrade! Last shoot went without a glitch. I had my D60 stolen and replaced it with the d5000 (refurbished). First of all B&H were excellent, answered all my questions and even called me before shipping to confirm address, as i had it delivered to my work address. No problems with any of my lenses, and the camera worked great. I even shot some video with it. Was able to use both the video and still captures for my project. This was great because before i had to carry both my slr and video camera to the shoot! I would definitely recommend this camera. The only thing i do not like about this camera (and i knew this nefore buying) is that it is a lower end camera and only has one (thumb) command dial.

I own this same camera and bought the same one for my daughter for her 16th birthday. We use it for every type of shot, action, close-up, indoor, outdoor. It doesn't matter, the pictures are crystal clear even if you crop the picture and blow them up. The camera is very easy to use. The battery life exceeds what anyone would ever need. I have amazing pictures of hummingbirds at my feeder that are so clear, you would never see the details of the bird any other way.

This is my first Digital SLR camera. I've always loved taking photos and have done some family/child portraits for friends in the past.It has started happening more frequently lately and when my pregnant friend asked me to take her maternity photos, I decided it was time to invest in a camera upgrade. I did a lot of research and decided that the Nikon D5000 fit all of my specifications. I'm definitely still learning about all of the features of this particular device, but so far so good.

I made the jump from a very cheap point & shoot camera to this Nikon. I am in the learning curve now with all the features and functions. I use it to take pictures of my grandkids, scenery pictures, just plain life stuff. So far, I am very pleased with the ease of use and picture quality. The movie function is the only thing I struggle with- the directions are very vague but I am getting there!

This camera is my first SLR, and so far I am LOVIN IT. The battery life seems like more than decent, the Picture quality is great, and the camera is quite comfortable in the hand. The stowable screen is great for conserving battery and protecting it. My only critisms would be its occasional inability to focus and its inability to preview pictures within the viewfinder.
