Bowens Gemini 400 Monolight (120VAC/12VDC)
The Bowens Gemini 400 Monolight is a lightweight, compact, 400 watt/second flash unit with a powerful 250 watt proportional modeling light, fast 2.5 second recycling time and full Bowens system compatibility.
The solid metal construction backed with intuitive controls and ergonomic features like recessed switches and sockets and a built-in handle make the Gemini 400 a pleasure to use. Bowens has also ensured the safety of your sensitive digital equipment by keeping sync voltage to a harmless 5V.
Another outstanding feature of this head is AC/DC capability. No electricity is no problem. The Gemini 400 is compatible with optional Bowens Travel Pak batteries, providing up to 750 full power flashes while on location.

I use this light in conjunction with a large Bowens softbox and the A4050CS Junior Boom Stand in order to place the softbox directly over food arrangements that I am shooting. I find the light to be well constructed, quick recycling, and consistent in output. It is also able to be powered by the battery Travelpaks for Gemini Monolights, allowing you use them on location without being tethered by AC power cords.

I picked up a Bowens Gemini 400 last week to add to my setup as a hair light on an editorial shoot.
To say the least, I was a bit skeptical about how well it would match up to my higher end Bowens Gemini Pro monolights at such a bargain price, but it matched perfectly and helped me to maintain a consistent white balance throughout my shoot.
Honestly, the only con is the slightly slower flash duration (1/1000 vs 1/2300 on my Gemini 750 PRO), but for most editorial and portrait shoots it will work great.
Gemini 400's small size and lightweight, yet sturdy build, combined with it's compatibility with Bowens Travelpak battery, makes it an excellent choice for location shoots.
Additionally, compare the broad range of Bowens attachments, modifyers, and softboxes to both Profoto and Broncolor, and you'll quickly see why Bowens makes such a great value in lighting. They offer a broad variety of top quality light shaping tools at a mere fraction of the price.
While I highly recommend the Gemini 400 for any photographer who needs great portrait lighting on a budget, please also check out the Gemini 750 PRO. I own a few of those, and firmly believe it is the best monolight on the market right now when considering quality vs power vs price.

I have used this light before with great success. However, I am staying with Profoto products. I prefer to attach my umbrella to the light and not the bowl modifier.
