I needed a DVD player with 5.1 analog out, which is hard to find nowadays. This one did the trick and was cheap.

Comments about Coby DVD514 Compact 5.1-Channel DVD Player (Black):
That' s right. Actually, I'm using the little guy more as a CD player. Go ahead and try to find a simple, single play CD player with a remote. Not so easy now.
The real problem is that most DVD players don't have a volume control on the remote. It's assumed you will adjust volume with your video system remote. The DVD 514 does have remote volume control so it can work as an independent CD player. It also has it's own display readout for track and elapsed time while a lot of smaller DVD players don't.
Of course it works fine and sounds great. There are not a lot of other audio adjustments like you might find on a dedicated CD player but that's OK.
There is one drawback I can see especially for use with classical music. Sometimes CD's of long classical pieces have sections divided into tracks even though they are meant to play through the sections uninterrupted. The 514 pauses very briefly, maybe about 1/10th of a second, between tracks and those pauses could be annoying for that kind of CD.
The player does sit close enough to the TV that I have the video connected and it plays DVD's with no problem. I don't use it much for that but it's nice to know I can.

Comments about Coby DVD514 Compact 5.1-Channel DVD Player (Black):
I bought this DVD player to play a variety of DVDs at my church. It played the standard professionally produced DVDs fine, but on some of the burned DVD-Rs, the player would not play the DVD-R and then take about 5 minutes to finally stop spinning so I could get the DVD-R out. Since this started happening within 30 days of purchase, I returned the DVD player. I would not recommend this player if you will be using burned DVDs, but you would probably be fine if you use it just for professionally produced DVDs.

I recently purchased my DVD514 Compact DVD Player and it is outstanding! I can watch just about any CD/DVD format on this DVD player! I also purchased it for traveling because of its small size. Great buy! Get one before they're gone!

I gave it one star because zero wasn't an option. After seeing one movie it stopped working. Not worth the money.
