Flip Video Ultra Camcorder (Black)
The Flip Video Ultra Camcorder (Black) is easy to use, and free from the sticker shock of more traditional camcorders. There are no complicated menus or settings to navigate and no delicate media to worry about. With basic functions and a fixed focus lens all you need to do is point the camera and shoot. It's that simple.
The Ultra features a 4GB internal flash memory that can hold up to 120 minutes of standard definition, full VGA, 30fps MPEG4 video. A 2" LCD display provides a platform on which to compose and playback your footage, while easy to understand controls keep recording simple. Controls include: record, playback, pause, fast-forward, rewind, zoom, and delete.
The footage you capture is recorded in an Internet friendly format, meaning that it's ready to share online without any fuss. When you're done shooting connect the flip out USB arm to your computer and let the built-in FlipShare software guide you through the process of posting to social networking sites, editing, emailing, and more.

I did a lot of research before buying a camcorder and I'm pretty sure I chose the right one. I looked at flash vs. hard drive vs. DVD. I looked at size, feel, and usability. Here is why I bought it and why I stand by my decision.
Things that are great:
1) Easy to use. You can't get much easier when there are only like 5 or 6 buttons to push.
2) Small size. It's about the same size as my iPhone but a bit thicker. I could probably put it in my pocket fairly easily but haven't really had a need to yet.
3) Easy to transfer files. It comes with built-in software to pull the videos off the camera and watch them. You don't even have to install it.
4) No fancy cables or anything. I love the flip-out USB jack that I just plug into my laptop and start transferring.
5) Easy to use out of the box. My wife usually waits for me to get home before trying out new electronics but by the time I got home from work she had already taken a handful of videos.
Gripes that I can live with:
1) It has pretty decent software but I wish it gave you a little more control over how it brought over the videos. Right now it creates screenshots of each video, thumbnails for viewing in the software, and a bunch of other garbage I don't care about. I also wish it gave me more flexibility when naming the videos.
2) I wish it came with a cover for the lens. We haven't gotten it dirty or anything yet but I have small kids and my daughter has put her finger on the lens a few times.
NOTE TO THOSE LOOKING AT THE HD VERSION: don't do it. Look at the reviews and videos on YouTube. I don't think the HD version is ready for the bigtime just yet. The videos I saw left a lot to be desired and the quality with this camcorder is pretty good for what it is. I'm not a pro by any means but I know what looks good and what doesn't.

I reviewed this camera 10/13/09 soon after its purchase and I was really pumped to have it and enjoy using it. All was fine for almost six months of casual and careful use, then a week ago I wanted to video an important event and it wouldn't power on. After doing some checking on the Web I learned that this was a common complaint and some found fixes, but not in my case. After working with Flip technical support and trying everything suggested, I was told that there was nothing else they could do for me.I now own a [$] brick! Three months is no warranty at-all. And its clear that with so many buyers having the same troubles, there is a design or manufacturing problem. This common issue should rise above the miserly warranty and cause them to accept returns and replacements for this problem. I politely suggested this to Flip customer service and was turned down. This camera is a great concept, but Flip has reliability and accountability problems. I can not recomend it. After-all, don't you want something that will work when you need it?

I use the product for a national news show - we give it to our subjects to film first-person video. The quality is surprisingly good and it is exceptionally easy to use. What's not so great? I hope the next model will have greater storage cabailities (ie. more minutes to record).

I use this camera when i dont fell like taking my more expensive and heavier equipment to little things like the park or to a baseball game. It is light weight and easy to use. Sound quality isnt that much to talk about.

The Ultra Camcorder by Pure Digital is so simple and easy to use and carry with you. It fits in a pocket and has great quality. I have never had as much fun with any camera, i am even using it for the basic ideas for a new reality show I am developing. This the fourth camcorder I've purchased and the best all around.

I bought this product for a short vacation a couple weeks ago. I thought at first it might be a bit too bulky, given it's thickness, but the ease of use outweighed this. I like that there are no additional cords to bother with. Nothing's worse than going to download a video and realizing I don't have the USB cord. Instead, you just flip up the USB and plug it straight into the computer. The sound and visual quality was perfect to capture those vacation moments of which a mere photograph doesn't do justice. I also like that it uses AA batteries, so no worrying about having to bring travel adapters for recharging. One downside, though, is that the zoom is a little slow. Overall, so far I'm very pleased with this product.

Pros: Can't beat the portability and ease of use. I am currently using my Flip Ultra for taping clips of the Adult Lecture Series at my local library. These will be uploaded as promos on the library blog page to enhance public interest.
Cons: Audio is only loud and clear if in close proximity to it's microphone. Also learned from Flip tech support that after 1 hour of continuous taping, it needs a rest to cool the batteries down. I went over that time and the camera froze - possibly a defect in that batch???

I love this flip video camera!! I have a camcorder but this thing is so small and it has a stabilizer in it so movies are not shaky. We go see an country singer that one day will hit it big and I can sit this on the table and record him playing....its sooo easy!! My nephew is retiring from the Navy and I could not think of what to get him. He has 2 small kids and I thought this would be so much fun!! Also am thinking of getting both my grown kids one for xmas.
