[Joint review - collected testimony from DJ owner of the HP who I bought them for and myself, producer/dj-in-training/moocher of headphones (but written from my perspective)]
Sick phones, mang. Nice, crisp, sound, especially compared to the broken junk we/I were/was using before. TBH I'm still not great at articulating technical descriptions of what I hear, but I'd say the highs are nice and clear without being super shrill. I want to say the mids are 'full' but lol idk what that even means half the time. Bass response is pretty nice too - accurate and full enough to get the whole spectrum (but not overpowered/muddy...you can always boost the bass on your cue out or w/e).
Very durable-feeling. Detachable cord is always a plus. Comfort-wise, they haven't been totally broken in yet so its hard to say. I stole the headphones to work on a song - I got really into it and my ears got really sore. Granted, most headphones don't fit my head that well and I also went for some hours, barely taking the phones off (and when I realized my ears were starting to hurt I just put the phones back on and kept going). I think they will break in pretty nicely tho. Just the cups, too - the head band part or whatever you want to call it feels great.
I will say that I wasn't the one who actually paid for them, and I haven't done headphone research in a while. So, I can't really comment of value. But regardless, they are some solid phones. And the price at b&h seemed pretty good (was the cheapest trustworthy retailer). I'd say you can't go wrong with these.
Or in the words of my friend upon unboxing:
"Oh...**** **** **** ****ing awesome."
PS: If anyone cares I listened through my real bad built in laptop soundcard and the pioneer djm-900 mixer my friend uses with his cdjs. I don't think I ever listened to it through my good soundcard/interface, but the djm headphone amp seems pretty good.

I have relied on my Sony MDR-v700s for the past 5 years for DJing and studio production. While they are great headphones, there is obviously room for improvement. The Pioneer HDJ-2000s are essentially just that. They are more comfortable, made of metal (instead of plastic), and have a better frequency response and color curve.

Wasn't really sure what to think ordering them online, I actually expected to return them. But after I got them put together and gave them a listen I honestly think they sound better then my boss's (I work for a sound company) AKG headphones that retail for $600+. Great buy for a professional or your casual listener with high expectations.

Well ill start of by saying i was looking for a great pair of headphones for my macbook pro and iphone. I listen to lots of music. I spent the better part of a year researching different headphones, some of the ones i looked at where the Allen & Heath Xone:XD-53, and beats by dre pro edition. All where rated high, but pioneer had better reviews. Having listened to all them i would say the beats had better bass but lacked in all other departments. Once i broke in the pioneers the high mids and lows are extremely detailed. Build quality is solid and light. Comfort you wont even know you wearing them. I wear eyeglasses and still dont feel any discomfort. As the title says simply amazing.

Super comfortable. I used to get a headache wearing the HDJ-1000's because they fit on top of my ears instead of over them. These are much better built. The 1000's lasted me a good 6 years, but finally broke in half right where they hinge. And did I mention they are loud? Hook these up to a mixer and you've got a backup pair of monitors. You can absolutely destroy your ears with these.

I have been searching for a great set of headphones for over a year and I have finally found happiness. I have had the Monster Turbines, Monster Dre Pro's and Bose QuietComfort 15 and the Pioneer HDJ-2000 just crush them all. There not just for DJ's you really need to give these headphones a run there comfortable to wear for hours and the sound just makes you feel like your in a concert... I really just can't say anything bad about these headphones they rock.

I primary use it for production, sounds editing and video editing but aside from all the work. I also enjoy with music all day long anywhere.
From all these years of everyday music, I owned at least over 25 different earphones and headphones. None can compete this HDJ-2000 beast at it price.
They are very tough to break, very durable and probably unbreakable.
It is comfortable if you don't wear glasses.

This headphone is gorgeous! Extremely comfortable and with great, clear sound! I was looking for 1) comfort, 2) sound quality 3) toughness. This one does it all, and with great looks as a bonus.
The foam is very, very soft and the headphone doesn't press your ears, I've spent 8 hours sessions with them several times now, without getting sore ears at the end. And the sound doesn't slip from them as well.
The sound is very crisp and clean. I've heard punchier headphones before, but this one is more balanced. I prefer it (you can always boost your bass on EQ if you want to... they can handle it).
On the cons, I expected a better carrying pouch... It's too small and doesn't have the Pioneer logo! Even my Gemini had a bigger pouch with a big logo. And I would rather not have a coiled cable, but that's a matter of preference.

Why does any company bother competing, these are by far the best headphones I have ever had. When listening to music in my stuido, I hear sounds I have never heard before in songs. The sound is so clear, feels like I cleaned my ears :). Not to mention how comfortable they are. Don't believe mainstream and buy something else..cough, cough, be*ts, cough, cough... these are the best gift for your ears.
