The 16GB YP-P3 MP3 Player (Black) from Samsung is more than just good looking. This MP3 player is one tough cookie with an aluminum casing and a 3 inch glass screen that resists scratching. Take it everywhere you go, day in and day out, the P3 can handle it.
The P3 also acts as your very own personal multi-tasking assistant. Sure you can store up to 4,000 songs to the 16GB flash drive, but you can also mark the calendar, jot down notes, and set the alarm so you don't oversleep. When you run into friends on the street sharing your photos and videos is a snap. And, let's not forgot the built-in mono speaker, the ability to read text documents, and listen to and record from the FM radio, as well as voice recording for notes to self.
The P3 is jam packed with fun features and gadgets, but it's also practically designed. The generous touch screen LCD is big and beautiful - perfect for viewing movies in transit and scrolling through menus, but it does something unlike most other MP3 players - it lets you know that it's listening to your commands. The screen's HAPTIC sensor talks back to you in the form of mild sensations. You scroll, the screen rumbles, you touch and the screen touches you back.
The LCD also features EmoTure Technology which gives you three different customizable desk screens to make your own with clocks, icons, and more. The P3 also features Bluetooth+EDR. You can make or answer calls without having to get your cell phone out or wirelessly listen to music while driving. In addition, the player supports DIVX downloads for fast, no hassle movie downloads.

I bought this to replace my 8gb iPod nano [4th gen] because after two years I was unhappy with the sound quality, having to use iTunes, the lack of a custom equalizer, and the odd freezing problem that would only go away once the battery had died. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Samsung had pulled out of the mp3 player market in Canada citing that they couldn't compete with the iPod anymore! I searched around and found B&H [...] who also had the best price to boot. I've had it for a few months now and couldn't be happier.I took the advice of other reviewers and updated the UI immediately so I can't comment on how it is out of the box. The updated touch controls work great and the UI is easy to navigate although I find that if I have it in my pocket and try to do a quick right to left swipe to change the song it doesn't always register. When I hold it in my hand it responds beautifully with little vibrations to match what you're doing on screen. Sound quality is amazing and I love how the equalizer sounds far more natural than any other mp3 player I've owned. Watching video on it is also a joy since even tiny subtitles show through crisp and clean. I don't use the games on it so I can't comment on those. I've tested out the Bluetooth function and it works as well as you'd hope. The flash video player on the other hand, while a nice feature to have, will not play all of the sound on any of the the flash movies I've uploaded. It seems to be picky about what it will play back and I haven't figured out why this is.Emodio, Samsung's organizing software, is the devil incarnate and should be avoided at all costs. Thankfully you can just drag and drop everything onto the player and save yourself a lot of headache. In the few months that I've had it I've managed to drop it several times and it's no worse for the wear. There's not even a mark on either the screen or the brushed metal finish despite the fact that I have it jostling around in my purse on a daily basis. My co-workers have all complimented my new 'phone' for looking so great as well.So to sum it up; it plays music with amazing quality, it plays videos with amazing quality, it's tough and durable, looks smart and stylish, has a horrendously programmed iTunes clone which can be avoided, and the flash player is so-so. At the price that it's going for it most definitely beats the iPod nano hands down. I only wish they were still available where I live or else I'd point all my friends towards them.

I have had my YP3 for a little over a month now and purchased it to replace a "Clix" that my wife took over. The YP3 is great as an MP3 player with beautiful sound and ease of use. The included headphones were cheap or too big for my ears so I replaced those and have been pleased. I tend to listen to the radio a lot and I must say that I have not been particularly happy with the reception especially when inside my office but elsewhere they are OK. My Clix picked up way more stations by comparision, but I have found the "one touch recording" convenient especially at conventions and meetings that are boadcast over FM. The external speaker could be louder and the volume control could go higher. The touch screen is fairly responsive but at times requires an extra touch to get a response. The on/off button is also a bit tricky, this button doubles as the lock button and therefore causes a problem when turning the player on. For some it may give the impression that the On/off button is broken but I feel it's because it's a shared button, if it's not held long enough the player will not turn on. They should have seperated this function. The included software Emodio is sub-par but works as I have had no problem transferring my music and album art. It's important to look for your album art first before transferring it to your player if Emodio didn't find it for you. A simple right click will make this happen. I did pair the player with my Bluetooth Cellphone and that worked perfectly for taking calls. The player has a built in speaker so it now becomes your phone, or if you have a set of headphones with a mic it too will work. (But note: you can't pair bluetooth headphones and a phone at the same time to the player) but you can pair several pair of Bluetooth headphones to the player at the same time. I have tried both and they work like a charm but drains the battery much faster. You can even pair bluetooth headphones and have a pair of regular headphones plugged in all at the same time and that way two of you can be listening to the player at once. (Usage: Jogging together, at the gym, you figure it out) All-in-all I have been quite happy with my YP3,[...] I have never had a problem with them for over twenty years now.

Overall it is an excellent MP3/Multimedia player. If it had video out, I would give it 5 stars. It works well with Ubuntu; Ubuntu just sees it as a drive and let's you copy whatever you want onto it.
Playing videos works well too, not the largest screen but it is nice that it has a 16:9 ratio.

I'm using this as a supplemental hard drive to tote music around from home to the studio. Very easy to load, beautiful to look at, and the sound is great. This is my first touchscreen anything and I'm having a bit of a problem using it. Maybe it's the size of my fingers but I seem to have a hard time scrolling through the screens and getting to where I want to go. I think I'm scrolling and instead I get sent through to the next screen. Very minor in the scheme of things however, and I'm loving it so far.

I use this most for music, all my music is fixed bit rate MP3 not sure if WMA will work as well. Blue Tooth works well easy to connect, I also find the alarm clock useful. The software is pitiful, the play list maker will not allow organization of songs, last one added is the first one heard.

If you don't need all the pointless apps from an IPOD this is the player for you. Sound is great and I just use Winamp to load music, never even bothered with samsungs software. Use the bluetooth to use your car stereo as your hands free.

Forget Ipod. Do you like Itunes? Do you like paying 20 dollars more for a Nano? Don't mistake me, this is not a replacement for an IPod Touch. The price range is completely different. But if you want an MP3 player with much better sound quality (than any Ipod) sturdy construction, and a large video ready touch screen, forget dealing with Apple. You can drag and drop music, play Flash games, listen to the radio etc. Its not as easy to use as an Ipod, but if you're even thinking about not buying an Ipod product, you must have some idea of how to use an MP3 player. Look at some other reviews, make a list of what you really need in a music player, and decide. For listening to Music and Videos at a sub 180 dollar price tag, you can't beat a Samsung P3

I've had my YP-P3 (16gb) for 3 weeks and traveled once with it. Very sleek and compact. Sound is great. I like the text reading and text to speech feature. I downloaded 2 free books to read on my flights. Very clear and sharp screen, but hard to read in bright sun. Included earphones are very poor. You will need better ones. Samsung's EmoDio software has some nice features but can be a little quirky. Music downloads (through EmoDio) are not available to North American users. Touch screen works well, but I needed to get used to it. Teck support was clueless on a problem I had getting text to speech file to load to MP3 after software had converted it. Video on screen is brilliant. Accessories are almost none existent. Samsung doesn't even make a case for it. The only one I could find that was acceptable would cost over $50 to order from Europe. All-in- all I'm satisfied.

I use this player as my all around music player when I'm not around my computer, and I absolutely love it (after upgrading the firmware, of course). The touch screen is great but not perfect, but I've rarely had problems with it other than with the occasional game or flash app, which aren't really the main focus of the player, anyway. The battery life depends on how you use it. You'll get 3-5 days of use if you just use it to listen to music, and maybe a day or two if you watch a lot of videos and mess with the apps and other things. The home screens are totally customizable, and you can add/remove widgets and icons as well as rearrange them and add new pages. The best part of this player, however, is the sound quality. Even with the stock earbuds the player sounds great, and I've ordered some high quality headphones to take it even further. This player is definitely worth the money.

As the mp3 player by itself, it's the definitely worth it. Sound quality is good and though the built-in speaker isn't powerful, it is more than decent.
The calendar and the memo would be a plus for me if it wasn't so hard to manage. The calendar cannot add appointments and the only way to get appointments on there is if you import .ics format. If you're lucky all your appointments would show up, if not than some or none at all. As for the memo, I wish it had word prediction instead of taping till you get the alphabet that you need and frankly it takes awhile to write one memo.

First, I'm impressed by the price. The MSRP on this item is [$], but it's listed here (at least when I got it) for much less. The controls are also a plus. Touch screens tend to be very intuitive, but with the quick access bar at the bottom of the touch screen is simply amazing, it improves functionality immensely. The audio quality is excellent. The video playback is a little limited in file types it supports, but I expect that from a portable. I didn't buy it for the video anyway.Overall, an excellent choice in MP3 players. I should also mention it is currently second on Consumer Reports, under the iPod Touch.

Comments about Samsung YP-P3 MP3 Player (Black):
If have had the P3 for two weeks thus far and I am very pleased with it. I wanted a touch player that integrated with Rhapsody and the P3 does. The price/feature ratio can not be beat by any other player. I got the 16mb version for [$] [...].It looks and feels solid and high quality. The screen is beautiful. The sound quality is excellent, many of the songs sounded completely different from my previous MP3 player, much richer and fuller. With the various DNSe settings and the 7 channel eq you have tons of control over the sound. The user interface is very intuitive, I was able to use the device without a manual. The haptic feedback is a nice feature giving the impression that you are actually pushing a physical button. It does not have wifi, which okay with me but is a drawback for many. However, the Bluetooth integration is a great feature. I can pair with my phone and then take and receive calls on the P3.The video quality is excellent. Support for flash is a nice bonus. Overall, I am very pleased with the P3 and would recommend it for those looking for an alternative to the iTouch.

Although I didn't come with a user manual, one is programed into it so when you plug it into your computer you will have access to one. It doesn't come with an AC adapter, you have to charge it by plugging it into your computer. The touch screen is amazing, very sensitive and accurate. The sound quality is great and the HD screen makes watching movies better. So far I haven't had to convert a movie file to be compatible with the P3. There are three main screens that you can navigate to by just flicking your fingure across the screen. All of them you can customize. I recomend buying this product, very easy to use and the technology from samsung is amazing, I would go as far as to say I'd get this over an itouch especially for the price.

Use the P3 daily for commuting. Didn't think the screen would be large enough for movies, but .avi files I've loaded onto it look surprisingly good.
Sound quality is great! Plays FLACs as well as WMV files, although I had problems with lossless WMV encoded files. Everything else plays fine.
