I have this on a secure wireless network at home. I have three computers printing to it. A networked printer is far more useful than a shared printer on one computer.
The printer is always available, wakes on demand, and prints excellent b&w in fastdraft. I do not use this as a photo printer. However, the few family and personal photos I have done print beautifully. I believe in best mode and some tweeking I could get competition quality photos.
This printer is commercial grade in its design. You can see the ink levels right on the LCD. I not only configured the wireless net work from the LCD panel, I backended the network, made some changes and set the network password.
Please understand, if you set up the network without security, the process is automated. Just follow the instructions and it is done. I set mine up with static IP and encryption. Easier than any of my XP computers. Fast and simple. I was done setting this up in less than 45 minutes. It has not given one problem.
Another plus is the quietness. I have owned HP printers since the late 90s. They are loud, but a work horse of a printer and dependable. This one is quiet. I have to go look at it to see if it is running.
I wonder if HP bought Kodak. Kodak printers tout their ink cartridge design as being the cheapest on the market. This HP cartridge setup is a copycat of the Kodak higher priced models. Can't say for sure, but the ink is going a long way.

I bought this printer a couple weeks ago. first of all, it took 45 minutes for the HP software to install. The biggest con to this product is its insanely slow communication to my computer. My computer is only a few months old and greatly exceeds the minimum system requirements. If you want to print anything, it will take more than 8 minutes (even on USB). When you click file, print, it takes 4 minutes for the print dialog box to appear, another 3 minutes for the printing preferences dialog box to appear (if you want to change your preferences) and another 4 minutes for the document to print once you've clicked "print". Microsoft Office 2007 programs takes forever to connect to the printer as well. If speed is an issue, I would highly recommend against this printer. HP support does not know what they're talking about either. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with them and all for nothing. The scanner runs at a decent speed, but let's faces it; you are going to mostly use it for printing, right? Hope this review helps. The print quality is great, once it actually prints.

Comments about HP / Hewlett-Packard Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Printer:
Noisy when warming up... Faster printing than the 2600 all in one that I repaced.
Set up for wireless could be easier, took several steps, unlike a Brother Lasher printer that I installed that took only one.

Comments about HP / Hewlett-Packard Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Printer:
The printer functions nicely. I had a little trouble installing the driver it, but built in troubleshooting in the software went out to the internet and downloaded the solution. Print quality is very nice and the wireless works well. The only complaint I have is that on occasion it doesn't respond, but this is always solved by restarting the printer.

Product is primarily used for personal, business, school related printing, copying and scanning. Fax feature is a nice bonus. So far I'm very pleased with the performance. I'm not technically minded so my IT guru hooked it up and 3 computers share the printer. Copies look great and I look forward to working stress free with this product!

Comments about HP / Hewlett-Packard Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Printer:
We run a fairly busy office. We print and receive a lot of faxes. For the money, this printer works hard for about a year and then dies. This is my second one. You can put a lot of paper in it and it rarely jams. The wireless is very convenient and works well. It offers programming features that are helpful. The ink is outrageously expensive, but that is the case with any HP printer. Often, we are scanning, sending things to the printer and receiving faxes. The machine puts everything in and doesn't get frozen.

Comments about HP / Hewlett-Packard Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Printer:
The printer works well, it needs to be on a solid stand since there is some motion when in use. Color as well as black and white printouts and copies have good quality. It does not support Windows 2000, so I had a bit of a problem getting the right driver loaded, but once I got that done, the set up went very fast. Since Windows 2000 is not supported, the scan and probably the FAX functions do not work on my W2K PC. As soon as I get the new PC, I'll try those functions.

I have used the print and scanning features of this printer.
PROS: print quality is high compared to other printers that I have used. Printer noise is not overwhelming.
CONS: I had to research how to use certain features on the internet given that the manual that came with the printer is not comprehensive.
Colored prints do not always appear in the same colors as when viewed on my computer screen

Personal use with my wife. Happy that I make copies and print from my lap top from another room. It was very hard to install, the disc would not download. Had to go to HP, spent three hours on the phone to get it to work.

I use the 6500 to copy, print, and scan. So far, it has done a greaat job. I have had my other HP printer for ten years with no problems.
The only issue I had was setting up the computer to communicate with the printer wirelessly, but that was caused by the CA security software. The CA tech changed the settings and I'm very happy with the printer.

A little tricky to setup for receiving faxes if your phone service is over the internet. I had to speak with support techs to figure that out.
