The Celestron Travel Scope is a quality, easy-to-use medium refractor for use on the go. Its 2.8" objective lens is sufficient for very pleasant use as a spotting scope, and it is combined with a 45° erect image diagonal which is well suited to that purpose. The Travel Scope's also practical as an astronomical scope for lunar, planetary, and wide star field viewing-as a 400mm f/5.7 refractor design, each of these pursuits will be quite pleasurable.
Celestron includes a pair of 50° apparent field 1.25" eyepieces, but you can of course use any 1.25" eyepiece you like. Add an optional 90° star diagonal for high-overhead viewing, or a straight through erecting porro prism for terrestrial viewing from elevated positions.
A 5x24 finderscope with quick-release bracket and full-size pan/tilt tripod round out the Travel Scope package, and the whole assembly fits into a dedicated backpack Celestron designed for simple storage and packing.

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 2.7"/70mm Refractor Telescope Kit:
I have used C8's, C6's, C90's, and now having the 70mm I have used the best portable Scope. In Hawaii, my wife and I were able to look out of our cottage at the ocean and see dolphins and whales. When ships went by we could see the people faces on deck. Walking through the forest we saw birds a half a mile away just like you were standing next to them. Because the Travel Scope is lite, we took it anywhere and everywhere. I used a Solar filter and say the May 20th eclipes. Set up is very easy and I can see my 10 year old nephew getting this scope this Christmas. I know he will have no problems setting the scope up or using it. I would love to see a better tripod that you get, that does not take anything away from this Scope. If you have used a Telescope before or never have, the Travel Scope/70mm is one that will teach you about how refracting telescopes work and you will ask yourself, why didn't i get this years ago.
Get this Scope and change your life!
Tim

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 2.7"/70mm Refractor Telescope Kit:
The tripod is way to flimsy and unstable. Very difficult to keep the scope focused because there is so much movement if just touched or bumped a little (including light wind). The Optics will let you see all the craters on the moon clearly. Stars are out. Planets you can see but not as clear as some other peoples telescopes I have used in the same price range.

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 2.7"/70mm Refractor Telescope Kit:
Used it two nights. Decent optics for price but poor mount detracts from usability. It is highly portable though.

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 2.7"/70mm Refractor Telescope Kit:
The telescope itself is very easy to use, good basic quality for the amateur astronomer. The tripod seems cheap, though, and the horizontal adjustment doesn't hold at all.

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 2.7"/70mm Refractor Telescope Kit:
I take this scope with me when I travel. Tripod is not great but I expected as much for the price. I planned to use this scope on my camera tripod anyway. Scope is nice.
