The Celestron Regal 100 F-ED Spotting Scope is a fully waterproof, armored device accepting any conventional 1.25" astronomy eyepiece, delivered with a zoom ocular.  Celestron's been making premium scopes for awhile now, and the Regal F shows much in the way of evolution:  the sunshade hood now telescopes and has a rotating sighting aid, the tripod collar now rotates as well, and they made the eyepieces interchangeable.  The supplied eyepiece also features a T-threading just under the eyeguard; add a T-mount for your SLR camera and you can digiscope directly through the eyepiece.

But the Regal 100 F-ED's best improvement is that one of the objective elements now contains fluorite, a costly crystal material which goes a long way towards achieving true apochromatic color correction.  Whenever light's harsh and contrasty, or when a colorful bird is cast against an overwhelming drab gray background, the fluorite will help define those edges of subject and background like no other element can.

For their flagship Regals, Celestron chose to only produce angled scopes.  Angled scopes are much easier to share amongst a group of observers and are generally regarded as giving a more relaxed, comfortable observing position unless you're elevated more than 45° above a subject.  It takes some experience to quickly locate subjects.

The Regal 100 F-ED is amongst a tiny handful of spotting scopes with an enormous objective lens diameter of 4.0", and as such is a large and weighty scope at that.  But from dawn to dusk, and everything in between, you'll constantly be reminded of that objective lens size as everything you'll see will be that much brighter in the eyepiece.  Digiscoping, as well, will be much easier thanks to all the added light reaching the inside of the camera.

Celestron's Regal spotting scopes include their wonderful "No Fault" warranty coverage, which assures that your scope will be repaired or replaced at Celestron's option for as long as you own them-no questions asked!  The only requirements on the user's end are to ship the binoculars (at the user's cost) to Celestron with a proof of purchase and a check or money order for $25 to cover the costs of inspection, shipping and handling.  This warranty service is valid only for USA and Canadian citizens.

After months of shopping, I was ready to spend the big money on a spotting scope for my long distance rifle work. While a smaller, field spotting scope would have probably been handier, my goal is to use this higher magnification, traditional-sized spotting scope to try and improve my wind-reading and bullet-tracing skills. Although I had considered scopes costing three times the price, I kept coming back to these low-cost scopes made by Celestron, essentially for star-gazing and bird-watching activities. I don't know if those markets have a different price structure than the shooting sports, but whatever the reason, the bang for the buck seemed to be much higher than what I could get through the more recognized "shooting-sport" brands. The decided on the Regal F-ED series, Celestron's flagship model. While these scopes are assembled in China, the lens are Ohara brand ED glass from Japan. And man oh man, does it show! The images are razor sharp from edge-to-edge, and the colors are true to life. The resolving power is also amazing. I was counting 6.5mm bullet holes at 500 meters yesterday, in the rain! And with the huge 100mm objective, my images do not get dimmer at all as I approach maximum magnification.Pros - Cost ([$]) - Japanese, ED glass - BAK 4 prism - 22-67x wide angle eyepiece - 20mm eye relief - accepts any 1.25" eyepiece - 100mm objective, awesome brightness and resolving power! - Waterproof - No fault lifetime warrantyCons - size (almost 2 feet long!) - weight (5.5 lbs!)Long story short, if you're in the market for some excellent value on spotting scope glass, consider these Celestron scopes. They also make 65mm and 80mm models if the 100mm model is too intimidating! In my opinion, they are one of the very best values for well under $1000.

I purchased this Spotting Scope based on the"ED" glass advertized qualities and I expected it to be more versatile and the ED glass if not like the Canon"L"glass I have in my Canon 10x42L-IS Binoculars,a bit closer to it especially because this Celestron has a big 100mm objective lens and the green multicoatings generously mentioned in both, specs and adverizing, promissed much better image contours and contrast than it actually produces ; from that promise only the flat image allover the field(no spheric/chromatic aberation at all), brightness and magnification are totally true.It is a well-built/nice-looking tool for the price, acceptable for the purposes I bought it for(close range astronomy, nature observation),but I would not reccomend it to somebody who wants fine detail beyond magnification 30-40x in conditions of average lighting and ground thermal effect, when the image becomes quite blurry anyway(outdoor shooting range and faraway target-objects).A better and more expensive eyepiece would probably help a lot to take advantage of the ED objective lens glass and good mechanics in this nice scope, but I did not try any,so this is only a guess.I only did some experiments with the 9mm,15mm and 32mm Celestron multicoated Plossl 1,25" eyepieces from my Newtonian telescope, and even the 9mm produces better images with this scope, compared with the 22-67x zoom eyepiece that comes with the kit;under 9mm the brightness decreases abruptly and a Barlow(1.5-2x)is usefull only starting from a 32mm eyepiece. The 1.25" eyepiece interface on this scope is another very nice/wellmade feature especially for astronomical purposes.

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

I bought this with the intent of target range spotting at 100 - 200 yards. The optics are very clear and mounts well to a sturdy tripod. The unit is not light, but is not too cumbersome to travel with. Lately I have used the 100 F-ED for some novice astronomy viewing. After reading some blog posts regarding spotting scopes, I purchased a TeleVue 24mm Panoptic eyepiece. The stock Celestron 22x - 67x zoom eyepiece is fine, but the quality of optics found in the TeleVue make a big difference - especially at night. For the price of this scope - even with the addition of a quality eyepiece - it is a good product, with a broad range of applications.

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

This unit was bought for long range varminting out to 700 yards. I have only really used it to 500 yards so far but the unit is well worth its money in this area. We are able to spot bullet misses and at most times can see the impact point at the time of impact into the object. Low light is good with the 100mm objective being able to be used after the rifle scopes fail. At 22x it is awesome all around up to 45X and then it falls off in light gathering at full magnification unless full sunlight. Does not like side light across lens (could possibly use longer hood)
      Well worth the money

I shoot hi power rifle and need to see small holes far away. I had the opportunity to look through several scopes on the line and found the regal to be just as good as the ones priced several times higher. Bright sharp optics with good contrast. Now that I have one of my own I feel I got a lot of scope for the dollars spent.

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

This scope is an outstanding value for the money. I have looked at Leica, Pentax and Nikon scopes in the 80mm range. I would say this 100mm scope performs better than most of the 80mm scopes costing 3X-4X more money. The fluorite lenses on this model are superb.

If you can tolerate the extra weight & bulk of the 100mm lens this scope is a fantastic value. Don't even THINK about hand holding this thing. You will need a very sturdy tripod with a fluid head. What's amazing about this scope is... You can actually USE the 67X setting and the image stays relatively bright & clear. The contrast at 22-45X is breathtaking. As with all zoom eyepieces... The field of view is not as wide as some high end fixed focal length eyepieces. (I have tried a TeleView Panoptic 24mm eyepiece and the results are really outstanding.)

The only complaint I have is that the course focus knob has some rough spots in the travel... But the fine focus let's you dial in the perfect focus with ease. With a scope this large you don't really need a super fast course focus anyway. This is not a scope for running around in the field chasing birds. It will make an excellent spotting scope for shooters. (Possibly the best I have ever tested.)

The build quality is acceptable. It may be a bit heavy... But it's sturdy & functional.

For the money... this is probably one of the best spotting scopes you can find.

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

Good field of view. Case included was for a different size smaller scope. I contacted Celestron directly [...] Celestron gave me directions to return case and they would see what they could do. So we are waiting to see what they will do!! Also mounting ring will not turn on the scope to allow other than verticle mounting to tripod...it appears stuck solidly in place!

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

Spotting scope is used mainly for daytime observation. We just try it a few time and it does a very good job. The image are really clear. We also look at the moon and it give a real good image of craters and relief. I'm not so used with spotting scope but my friend has done astronomy for a while and he like the scope a lot. It's a little difficult to get good focus at 67X but up to 50X it's excellent and the coarse adjustment is a not always smooth but it's the only negative things. The great things is the price. From what I read from review it's a great quality at a price largely under other spotting scope. So it's a great deal!!

Used mainly for viewing rifle targets. Easily resolves 30 caliber hits at 200 yds. Bright, clear image edge to edge. Good color rendition. Also used for casual astronomical viewing and was able to resolve some color bands on surface of Jupiter.

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:

Great optics. Have had it for 2 weeks +/- a few days and already love it. It needs a firm platform, so if you have a flimsy tripod you're in trouble. While I didn't buy this for viewing the night sky, I've been able to view the rings of Jupitor, see stars that aren't visable to the naked eye and get close and personal with the moon. On land it provides bright, clear views. Have used my Canon 40D with an adaptor and am getting some decent shots but since I wear glasses and the 40D doesn't have the best monitor, I am having some issues getting a tight focus, but that's my issue, not the scopes. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars, I believe there is a design flaw with the t-ring provided with the scope. When attached to the zoom eyepiece it can become so tight as to stick and almost be unremovable. Two of us spent hours trying to seperate the two. Celestron's response: "There is no easy way to separate the two pieces. We can issue an RMA for just the eyepiece and your adapter." Seems as though Celestron could provide a simpler solution, such as a buffer between the pieces like a washer or o-ring?

Bottom line, a great scope, especially for the price.

The clarity on the scope is excellent. No distortion or loss of colour - even at full magnification. The build quality is very good and the dual knob focus is smooth and very easy to use. The scope is fairly heavy but get a decent tripod and balance it correctly - you don't notice the weight. The Pro's of this scope far outweigh any issue with the weight. [...]I am very happy!!!!

Comments about Celestron Regal 100 F-ED 4"/100mm Spotting Scope Kit:
