The Celestron #44306 Handheld Digital & Optical Microscope is a compact and versatile examination instrument that offers you the ability to observe specimens either upon a computer monitor or in a traditional eyepiece.
The optical magnification ranges from 4-8x along with a 50x high power setting, and by inserting an included digital imager upon to the eyepiece you can either capture still images or observe specimens at higher 20-40x or 200x magnification. Also included is the ArcSoft software for managing your digital captures.
The native resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels is superior to most entry-level digital microscopes, and this model also offers adjustable LED illumination (requires 2 "AAA" batteries). The perfect amount of brightness depends upon your effective magnification and the coloring and topography of your specimen-many of the LED illumination devices only offer a fixed level of light output.

Comments about Celestron Handheld Digital & Optical Microscope:
The item was exactly as described. I bought it for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas who oddly enough loves rocks and minerals. We have had a great time exploring just about everything you can think of.

Comments about Celestron Handheld Digital & Optical Microscope:
I recently purchased this model AND the Celestron Digital Microscope Imager(B&H # CEDIQ Mfr # 44421). This model (Mfr # 44306) works great with the optical eye piece, but I could not get the digital/imager to focus - the focus ring stopped turning just short of sharp focus. I found that this model accepts the imager (Mfr# 44421) AND that focus is then sharp.
I exchanged this model and had similar problems - this time I could adjust focus on "both sides" of the focus point, but still found that using the imager model 44421 gives significantly sharper images.
I talked with Celestron support (310-803-5955) and was told that the Digital Microscope Imager (44421) is a newer model and so may produce better images.
RECOMMENDATION: Buy Celestron model Digital Microscope Imager(B&H # CEDIQ Mfr # 44421) and use that imager with this Handheld Microscope for sharper digital images.

Comments about Celestron Handheld Digital & Optical Microscope:
I use the Handheld Digital microscope to show small crystals and other micro-formations to my 8th grade students. It is really cool to be able to put it up on the projection screen so that everyone can see it.
It is small, compact, and was a good price.
It would be great if it could zoom out a little to show a larger sample. Otherwise, neat little piece of equipment for a teacher.

Comments about Celestron Handheld Digital & Optical Microscope:
On my 32" I am getting 26X & 260X magnification. For viewing polishing quality on metals this is most excellent. The images and video are just fine. Using XP sp 3. Emailed them and they said Win 7 is no problem. The focusing ring seems of no use and the light dimmer switch isn't very good. Difficult to dim. But over all this tool is a huge relief on my weak vision and I rarely use a 10X loupe any more. Also the camera regains focus quickly. And I have no problem acquiring focus at either range.
