This battery is mostly bought for one of the worst reasons a consumer would want: because we have no other choice.
Panasonic has recently added the 'ID Secured Battery' concept. This means, Panasonic cameras will only work with Panasonic batteries. This leaves out of the game a number of battery manufacturers who could be offering some equal quality (or sometimes even better) at a lower price.
Don't get me wrong: This battery is a good battery. Has fast charging time, and has a reasonable working duration. The point is, it's not the largest capacity battery in its size, and, sometimes you'll end up needing more. I'm using a Lumix ZS7 which has GPS in it, and there's no way I can have it on all the time, not even having a spare battery (ID Secured, of course).
There's a worst part: This battery is not cheap. Can't blame Panasonic, you're stuck with their batteries, so why not make an extra buck with them? You could be getting generic batteries for a fraction of the price you'll have to pay for this. But you can't.

Need to have a back-up battery ready to go since the longevity of battery life during camera use is not as I expected. If you are prepared for this, things will be OK.

We are warned by Panasonic that we must use only Panasonic batteries in Panasonic cameras. I did not want to take the chance just to save a couple of bucks. Plus, I bought a Panasonic Battery Charger (DE-A65BA) at the same time.
Note that Panasonic does not include a battery charger with some models like the Lumix DMC-ZS15, forcing us to charge the battery in the camera. An external battery charger is much faster and the second battery means we are not tying up our camera just to charge it, which is a slow process.
I purchased Panasonic batteries before for my Lumix in 2008, and they are still holding a charge like the day they were bought. Highly recommended!

This was the perfect backup battery for my Panasonic camera. For my last camera, I purchased a no-name brand battery and it did not hold a charge. This one is exactly like the one that came with my camera. Just another example of getting what you pay for. And B&H were quick with filling my order. Great experience.

this was a spare battery for my wife's camera. It came with a plstic carrier to keep in from shorting out in a bag. I charged it before using and it works perfectly - as expected from Panasonic.

I needed a backup battery for those longer daytrips to be able to keep on snapping photos. I found this one at B&H -- exactly the same. Works fine. I had thought I had lost my charger so I ordered it at the same time. Long story short: found my original and returned the new charger. B&H was great and prompt about the return. Good communication. Reasonably quick shipment for across the country.
