The B&H price, [...] was phenomenal. The actual range of the Motorola radios is disappointing. Even in full power on GMRS frequencies, the radios can not transmit more 0.5 miles in an indoor urban landscape. They very well may have a 35 mile range line-of-sight, mountain-top to mountain-top, or over water; However, do not expect these radios to work over a distance of 0.5 miles in a City.

Comments about Motorola MR350R Talkabout Two-Way Radio (Pair):
I have played with these for a week. My impressions are rather good, the sound is good (far from being very good), the range is very good if I choose higher channels – so no complains there. My kids love it, but for day to day play I make sure I set lower channels that are limited to 0.5W RF radiation.
Now here comes the unbelievable part: there was a problem with the charger, only the back slot was charging. The front slot was dead. I opened the charger and realised that the complete circuit board was WRONG. One of the front slot pads that was supposed to be connected to the minus, was connected to the plus – and this required full re-work / coper trace cutting and few more changes to the placement of one diode and one capacitor. It is in fact quite stunning that Motorola released this product without any quality control checks…
What to say…. I bought this product from B&H based on their and Motorola's reputation…. For the money the product is very good. The unbelievable part came in to play when I realised what someone had done to the charger PCB… this certainly did not even reach Motorola QC, yet - the charger has Motorola logo. Motorola, you are getting both thumbs down from me.

Used with a throat microphone - not sensitive enough.
Used with in-line microphone - work well.
I would recommend this radio just not in combination with a throat microphone.

I have only tried using them once now, but the sound quality was extremely poor. I couldn't make out what the other person was saying, even after turning off the privacy filter.

The product read 35 miles in optimum conditions....we get about 2 miles on a flat island. Hope on the water it is better since we got it for our boat in the Bahamas.

Great product for the price. Many features that you would not get on a regular set of 2 way radios. Also this is the best price on the net. Very happy with my purchase. Just don't expect to talk through a block of buildings. Common sense recommended.

Comments about Motorola MR350R Talkabout Two-Way Radio (Pair):
Do not expect a great range on these. We were able to get about 1/2 mile reliably. These are larger than the Talk-abouts we bought a few years ago, and the High power setting does give a better range, but for the size, there is little difference overall. Handy for keeping in touch with a group when you are fairly close together.

This is a great....what a way to make sure one can keep in contact with your partner, friend, child or anyone one happens to be out with. For eg, shopping in a big mall or skiing in the mountains....no need to worry about phone signals and it sure beats paying hefty mobile phone bills!
