I used this mono pod in a 18 day road trip from East to West coast, from Galveston, TX. to Venice Beach, LA. I needed the stability of a tripod and the mobility of a mono pod. This product seemed to combined both so I dug deep in my wallet and took the plunge.
The construction is what you expect of Manfrotto, solid and with a professional feel. The sliding plate gives you quick release and lock and the tilt was surprisingly smooth. Panning was also very smooth and a joy to use. My video camera is very light (Canon Vixia Hv30) and initially I thought that would be good, but when I switched to my old Sony Camcorder, (a pound heavier) every thing seemed to work even better. The product is rated up to 8 pounds. During the trip I shot footage from inside a moving car, roadside, in amusement parks, hotel lobbies, beaches, and a redwood forest. Two things that concern me were that the fluid head is at the bottom of the unit and if you are shooting outdoors like I was, sand and dirt my damage your unit and the little legs that help stabilize the unit tend to bend backwards too easily leaving you to hold the unit like a regular mono pod (with no legs). I re adjusted the pins that lock the legs and that help a little but don't count of the legs for serious support. For indoor and flat surfaces I think the product is great, for outdoor I would use it with a lot of caution. That was my experience during a long road trip.

I love this monopod, and I'm buying my second today, but only because the feet snapped off on my original 561B monopod. There are three feet that fold out at the base of the monopod. Unfortunately they are attached to the pod via plastic connectors. So don't do what I did: don't do funky tilting maneuvers with the monopod with your foot on the ... err... feet. Two of the three feet have been KIA at weddings.
Otherwise it's a great little unit and plus it's Patrick Moreau approved.

I love this monopod, and I'm buying my second today, but only because the feet snapped off on my original 561B monopod. There are three feet that fold out at the base of the monopod. Unfortunately they are attached to the pod via plastic connectors. So don't do what I did: don't do funky tilting maneuvers with the monopod with your foot on the ... err... feet. Great to run and gun steady shoots, with smooth pan and tilt. Great for events, weddings, etc. Flip out feet give great stable base.
After using it a couple times, got some dust in the pan ball bearings and now sticks a little bit.

I shoot wedding videos professionally and this monopod has allowed me to scrap my tripods altogether except for during the ceremony and 1st dances. It's a little more restrictive than my shoulder support, but works great on the fly when you need steady shots. The pan on the bottom is a little awkward and takes a little getting used to, but the fliud tilt head more than makes up for it. I would definately recommend this monopod to anyone doing video who is serious about being able to move around a lot.

Only played with in the house so far but works great. Just like you imagined.
Can do great leaning "dolly" shots with it. And because it is soooo easy to move and change angles it will quickly become another need to have tool. Fluid head works smooth like it should. Great product.

This is absolutely the most versatile monopod I have ever used. If you are shooting video with a DSLR or small camcorder this monopod practically eliminates the need for a shoulder mounted rig. The combination of a ball-mounted base and a fluid tilt head opens the door wide for creative opportunities. Mounting this unit on a small inexpensive dolly would even further expand its usefulness.

The head is great. It is kind of spring loaded, to where it returns to center.
Also, the fluid joint on the bottom to pan, is not the same as the ball joint. It is it's own mechanism. At first it was sticky/jumpy when panning, but I took it and twisted it very quickly for several minutes, and this seemed to break it in.
It is now very smooth for me.

Great piece of equipment to have especially if your filming on dslrs. We use this mostly for weddings and it's probably one of the best tools you can get that's very mobile and keeps you from getting that nasty jello effect seen on dslrs.

I've been using this product for two weeks while shooting video with my HDSLRs. The monopod adds stability and reduces camera shake, but fortunately doesn't have the "fixed" look of a tripod.
The arm on the video head is a great length for control. The only problem I've had is some resistance in the bottom of the monopod, causing a small shake when I begin movement while filming.

I use this with a Canon 5d mkii attached. I once thought I needed an expensive shoulder rig to get nice stable shots while being mobile, and now i've learned that all you need is this monopod.
The monopod is fairly light, and the build is solid. Although i've heard that mileage with the feet will very as they tend to get loose with heavy use.
I would definitely recommend this product to others looking for a video monopod.
