Comments about Digital Spectrum ALBUM, Portable Digital Photogallery (Black and Silver):
I had to split my rating down the middle since the good points would rate 5 stars and the bad points would rate 1 or even less stars.
If you looking for a device with great screen quality, this has a screen that is superior to other photo frames that I have seen on the market but my praise ends there. There are many functional items that could be improved on this system and hopefully future versions will fix these short comings.
The issues I have are the following:
When you are displaying photos off a memory card as opposed to the internal memory there is an annoying red indicator that shows in the top right hand corner of every picture. My requests to Digital Spectrum support have gone unanswered on how I might shut that off.
If you do get try to contact support I suggest that you ask one question at a time. It seems that when you ask multiple questions you are lucky they answer one which will have you sending additional emails that may or may not get responded to.
The manual is very poor as it doesn't tell you what the different LED states during charging indicate. I thought there was a problem when I first plugged it in and saw a rapid flashing red light.
The only picture format that is supported is JPG. I originally thought that it might support video since the original description on the Digital Spectrum web site said it had speakers. The web site description was changed after I asked what the speakers were for.
The way the menu system works is also tough to navigate. You need to go into at least one picture that is in the on board memory before you can get the menu to display so that you can select to option to view from your inserted memory card.
Since there are no descriptions of any of the menu items in the manual, I have yet to determine what some of the commands actually do, like the Clean-up command.
If you keep your photos organized in folders with sub-folders you will need to take into consideration that the menu on the Album will display them all as top level folders. So if you had a folder called vacations and under that you have two folders called 2008 and 2009, they would display on the album as just 2008 and 2009. This may be an issue if you want to use the slideshow to display all of your vacation shots for both years you will need to combine both folders into one.
Improvements that would make this better are:
Having the option of having the slideshow end after the last photo in the folder as opposed to having it loop until you stop it.
Rotate feature so portrait mode pictures can be viewed on the entire screen.
