The Manfrotto 701HDV,547BK is a lightweight tripod system for camcorders up to 8.8 lbs. This system offers the 547B tripod with a mid-level spreader, soft case and the reliable 701HDV fluid head.

- The Bogen 701HDV Pro Fluid Video Mini Head is capable of accommodating payloads up to 8.8 lbs, and was designed principally to support the latest digital video equipment, including Mini DV and prosumer/professional grade HDV camcorders.

Now that I've had this on a few shoots, I can say that I love it.
I'm putting a Panasonic HDC-TM700K with a JuicedLink CX11 on top which is very light and the fluid resistance seems perfect for the weight.
Quick to set up and level. Has good height. Nice fluid action – no backlash and stays put. Rubber and spike feet. Solid head to tripod attachment. Integrated bubble level. Ball adjustment for fast level. Big, and easy leg levers for fast leg adjustment – no turning or straining. Very stable leg design with spreader.
You get a lot with this kit for the money. Many extras that other similarly priced kits don't have. If you need a tripod which will set the camera a few inches from the ground, this isn't it. But that's the only limitation I can think of for this.

I would have given it five stars but ever since Manfrotto did away with the built in leg spreader at the top of the legs, it forces you to use the midlevel spreader which is cumbersome and annoying. I hope Manfrotto brings this feature back SOON! It has a little too much flex in the legs when panning causing a little movement in the opposite direction upon fininshing a pan. Which isn't a deal breaker for doing football but would be for anything that required a smooth professional look. It is a great value for prosumer level cameras where.

I mostly shoot live events like gala's and concerts and this tripod is perfect.
The legs are sturdy and it has a bowl head for quick leveling when setting up your shot. It's hard to miss so surrounding people will not miss the tripod and trip or accidentally kick it and disrupt shot. It comes with a carrying case so it's easy to move around. Panning and tilting is really smooth. Releasing and locking the legs may be slow at first but you only need to get used to it.

Mostly got this for the legs. The head is fine, but too small for any professional use. The bag barely fits the legs with a larger head, but I put my slider in it so it got some use anyway.
Sturdy design, love the bowl mount and how light the whole thing is for a high-weight-capacity tripod.

This is the second 701 tripod I have purchased. So that should speak for itself. I am an on the go corporate. Video specialist so I need my gear to be sturdy and mobile. This package is great for that. My oly complaint is that the bag is a bit too light weight so I will probably need to get a better one for travel. Excellent price too!

-Use: Pro Video with DSLRs
-Good things: The bubble is nice and works as it should. Basic movements are smooth enough for that class of tripod. Pretty ok for pan and tilts.
-Bad: The locks for the legs came off their hinges after a month of use. It is simply very badly designed, it is umbelievable that something like this can hit this market. It's simply bad. I felt i payed for something and was tricked. There is no nut to the axix that holds the locks in place, the plastic receives pressure to lock the legs and that pressure deforms it, unhinging them and making it impossible to keep the tripod up.
And it is also too long for this height and weight.
Do not buy this item.

I was a little unsure about this tripod having never seen it in person. I have used much larger tripods for larger cameras and smaller ones for photos both made by monfrotto.
At first I thought the tripod might be a bit flimsy due to its weight and plastic everywhere. After using it for a few days I see now that its very well made. The legs are stable and fold easily. The head is fluid as you would expect, and the bag is a nice touch.
I was considering getting just the 701 head or getting the kit with the 501 head. This combo is just right for almost any DSLR setup you can throw at it. I am using a 60D with the grip and 24-105 with some mic's etc on the hot shoe and this setup is fast and light.

The tripod is light weight, and quite compact when folded up. The spreader provides the stability needed for shooting on the end of your lens. Overall I am very please with this tripod.
