DX lenses are NOT recommended for use with 35mm film or "full-frame" digital SLR cameras
The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens is designed for the APS-C sized sensor found on many Nikon cameras, but this lens may be used on certain full-frame models utilizing a special function of the sensor. As it stands, this lens will project an angle of view that is the equivalent of a 15-36mm lens in the FX or full frame 24x36mm format.
The primary user of a lens such as the 10-24mm Zoom-Nikkor will be one who finds standard kit lenses not quite wide enough for their tastes when photographing landscapes or interior views. An added benefit of wide angle optics is their ability to focus extremely close for a unique perspective on macro objects as close as 9.6" (24cm).
This ultra-wide angle lens incorporates some of the best of Nikon's technical accomplishments in optical engineering. Each 10-24mm lens is comprised of two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses with no fewer than three aspherical lens elements. Nikon coats their glass with their own Super Integrated Coating that makes light transmission more efficient.
Focusing is facilitated by a speedy yet muted, AF-S Silent Wave Motor augmented by internal focusing design that eliminates changes in barrel protrusion. Full time manual focusing override is available with a M/A focusing switch.

but it's minimum focus is incredible and it just has just the right amount of distortion at it's wides which is great.

Have used this lens a few months now. It isn't up to Nikon's fit and finish standards. The focus and zoom functions are not as smooth as I've experienced in the past on other lenses. It's not as sharp as I would expect for a Nikon lens. I'll have to try to find a non-zoom lens wide enough to do what I need to do. This lens is ok for a snapshoot type lens. And eventually I may find a setting for the lens that will yield the results I need.

It is the best lens I own. Used it for the first time the other evening. Indoor shooting with Nikon B600 flash. The lens and flash were made for each other and produced terrific photos with excellent sharpness, wonder depth of field and very even light dispersal.

You can do some really fun things with this lens. The closer you get, the more interesting the result! You can totally change the perspective of your subject with a slight tilt one way or another. Really brings out your creativity...which is really saying something for me since I don't have much!!!

Was in the market for a wide angle lens. Went a little over my budget to get this lens because i was concerned about the quality of some of the 3rd party lenses. It was totally worth it. The images are sharp and the colors are brilliant. Having the 10-24 range makes it versatile as well. Only drawbacks i can think of are that its a bit heavy (but what do you expect) and the images around the edges get a little bit distorted, but its a wide angle so this is expected. Love this lens and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

If you've never looked thru a super wide angle lens before, this is a real treat. I use this mainly for landscape and architectural photography. It does end up with a bit of stretch in the far corners, but nothing a little profile correction in LR can't take care of. If you're shooting wide open you may notice a little softness in the corners, but again it's not something that I would consider being a big no-no.

Well-made. Focuses and zooms smoothly. Sharp. Some distortion at widest angles. Photoshop will fix. This is a terrific lens if you need ultra-wide capabilities. If you don't, but do need wide angle to short tele, wait for Nikon's new 16-85mm DX lens to be introduced this year (2012) - don't know when. However, understand it will be entirely internal focusing and zooming. If predictions prove correct it will be an excellent replacement for current the 16-85. With a 10-24 DX and 16-85 DX you'll be covered from 15 to about 125 in FX mm equivalency. Nice.

I have only had this for about a month now but I am very happy with it. At first I was thinking about the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 but I liked the range better on the Nikon 10-24mm. This is my first ultrawide lens. It does take a little getting use to when it comes to composition. The photos are sharp and the color is beautiful. You do get a little distortion wide open when shooting like a group of people up close but it is nothing that can't be fixed with lightroom or photoshop.
I do recommend a UV filter to protect the lens for it is right at the end of the barrel and it could easily get scratched.

Comments about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
I bought this lens primarily to take interior/exterior architectural photos and it does everything I need and more. The field of view is in excess of 90 degrees at 10 mmm, and enables me to capture almost an entire room in one shot (taken from a corner) The outer edges of the photos are a slightly splayed, but not anything like a fish-eye lens. Overall, a very nice lens and very useful.

Comments about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
I use this lens with my Nikon 5000D. It has given me some really spectacular magazine quality shots. The color, clarity, ease of use is 5 stars! You can even focus in and it will not produce a wide angle shot when it is not necessary or you just don't want it. I am an amateur photographer and have been buying cameras and taking photos for about 10 years. This was a big commitment for me in my lens collection but I am so glad I finally bought one. It was worth every penny.

This lens is incredible to capture moments in small places, as well as landscapes giving a real sensation of dimension.
Really amazing lens, havent take it to its maximum potential yet.
One small detail to consider (if you have samll place to carry it) is that when you wrap the lens and put it in your bag, it si kind of big and needs more space than the rest of the lenses.

I originally bought the sigma lens and returned it in frustration as it didn't focus in live view. After getting the Nikon I couldn't be happier. Fantastic clarity and color, and going to 24mm makes it much more versatile as a walk around lens.
