Comments about Norman D12R Pack, 4- IL2500 Head/Reflector Kit:
The Norman D-12R powers the 900volt series Norman strobe heads. This is the 4th Norman D12R Pack I have purchased. The R designation means the pack has a built-in 4-channel pocket wizard receiver. (Channels are changed by holding down the transmitter test button on the desired channel during the first 7 seconds of the pack power-up.) It is a handy feature- with no sync cord from the camera to pack and it allows us to use up to four wireless setups at the same location. There are 4 output plugs on this pack that can be split into 2 channels variable from 9ws to 600ws, with two plugs each, or they can be combined into a 1200ws channel. We use these packs for school photography of individual students where we take several photographs in rapid succession. These are 1200ws packs set to a total output of under 300ws (in two channels using four heads) so they recycle extremely fast. These are heavy duty units that are firing literally thousands of times per day. Occasionally we have more power go to one of the heads on the same channel causing increased light output on that head. Generally, when this occurs, the misfire alarm does not sound. When a head totally misfires, the alarm does sound. I wish this pack had 4 separate isolated variable channels-but this is not the case. There are other companies that provide that, but at over three times the cost of this pack. This is a nice pack for the money.
