The V-Studio 100 from Cakewalk is both a digital audio interface/controller for use with a computer based DAW, and a standalone recorder.
As an interface, the V-Studio 100 features analog I/O along with 2 channels of S/PDIF input and MIDI I/O. As a controller, the unit provides a single 100mm touch sensitive, motorized fader, 5 rotary controls, 11 buttons and a transport control section.
When used away from a computer, the unit functions as a 2-track recorder utilizing SD cards as the recording medium. Perfect for taking to rehearsals or a live performance, the V-Studio 100 delivers digital mixing, and built-in effects that include reverb, EQ and compression.
Included with the interface/recorder is a decent collection of software processors, plug-ins and virtual instruments, along with SONAR VS, a Windows only digital audio workstation.

Comments about Roland V-Studio 100 - USB 2.0 Portable Music Production Studio:
I bought this to record my shows to put together a "live CD". So far I have been real pleased with its performance. I have recorded four live shows now. I am using the the bundled Sonar VS, and running it to a Win7 laptop. Sound is real clean, and I did call Cakewalk customer service one time. The rep was a huge help, as I had some settings wrong. I anguished about this purchase and almost went with the MOTU mk3 ultralight, but I am glad I went this route. It's as accurate as what goes into it, if you know what I mean!
