Fast, relatively small, and handles the two most commonly used formats (by photographers, at least). To date, I've only used the CF slot and my review is based upon its use only on Windows Vista and Windows 7 PC's.
FWIW, on my Vista PC, Vista stated that the transfer speed was about 14Mb/s. On the Windows 7 PC, it stated that the transfer speed was about 24 MB/s. On the Windows 7 PC I compared it to the Sandisk Firewire Extreme CF reader (latest version) with a motherboard Firewire connection. The Hoodman USB reader was noticeably faster. For testing purposes I transferred about 1GB of RAW images from a Sandisk Extreme 16GB CF card using a manual copy and paste transfer using Windows Explorer. I was surprised by how much faster the USB based Hoodman reader was than the Firewire Sandisk reader
There are pro's and con's to an attached USB cable. On the plus side, it is more compact and one less item to track. On the negative side, it is slightly more bulky to pack the combined reader/cable unit and if one part (i.e. the cable) breaks then the entire unit is useless. Time will tell if an attached USB cable is a good idea but so far, I see no reason for worry as long as I wrap the cable up for travel in a way that does not unduly stress it by bending the cable at sever angles etc.
Overall I am quite pleased with the Hoodman USB card reader!

Not very compact (unit + cable attached) and not so fast. Tested against my 3 years old standard USB 2 reader, using those two CF cards : SanDisk Ultra II 8 GB (15 MB/s) and Lexar Professional 400x 32 GB UDMA (60 MB/s ?) . Almost same speed in both readers with the SanDisk card and about 30% faster with the Lexar. Conclusion : some speed gain (maybe 30%) IF and ONLY IF paired with a fast UDMA card.

Comments about Hoodman USB2.0 UDMA Reader:
good: small, durable, fast, easy to align cards
not so great - cord doesn't detach from unit to break down for traveling (which is good and bad, I suppose)
i wish the LED was on the front of the unit, not top

Comments about Hoodman USB2.0 UDMA Reader:
I use the reader for Compact Flash cards (400X Transcends) we use in Canon 7D and 5D's. Cards tend to average 28-30 MBps and can empty a 32GB card in 18-25 minutes. Build quality is nice and the addition of SDHC is a nice perk.

Comments about Hoodman USB2.0 UDMA Reader:
For off loading those huge video files, this reader is a must. Fast, universal, it works equally well for photos and video. I use mine to down load Canon XF-305 files and it works better than my built in media reader. Its great a portable too. SOme people mey not like the fact that the USB cable is attached, but I think it's fine beacuse it is one less thing to get lost in a lap top bag.

I purchased this produce to complement the UDMA CF cards that I purchased for my new Canon 5D MK II. Shooting Raw I needed a way to quickly down load 21.6M files. The RAW USB 2.0 UDMA Reader is just the ticket. It is "plug and play", handles files 5-7 times faster than the reader in my computer. 50 raw files will download in less than a minute. No down side to this product, price is right and it does what it is advertised to do.

Comments about Hoodman USB2.0 UDMA Reader:
Simple and reliable. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. When used with a UDMA CF card the transfer speed is good enough that dumping a card isn't torture. The integrated SD slot is nice, as well. As far as USB readers go, I'd buy this again.

Comments about Hoodman USB2.0 UDMA Reader:
I use all Hoodman RAW CF cards - 16 & 32 GB. They were taking forever to download via my computers internal card reader. Approximately an hour and a half for the 32 GB and about 45 minutes for the 16 GB ones. Purchasing the Hoodman UDMA reader was the best decision! It is super fast ... my 32 GB card downloads in only 15 minutes! And the other cards in about 2 -5 minutes. Highly recommend to everyone who shoots with the RAW CF cards.
