AverMedia AVerTV Hybrid TVBox 11 Tuner
Now you can take a break from work by turning your LCD or plasma monitor into an HD TV with the AVerTV Hybrid TVBox 11 tuner from AVerMedia. The compact box tuner delivers HD digital TV, over-the- air (ATSC), or unencrypted digital cable (ClearQAM) right to your desk.
In addition, the tuner provides transparent Picture-in-Picture so you can watch TV and work on your PC at the same time. You also have the option of choosing the size of the PIP image, either 1/4, 1/9, or 1/16 the size of your monitor screen, and move the image wherever you want. You can also connect other devices, such as a projector, DVD player, camcorder, or video game system and switch between them.
The tuner is packed with features such as progressive scan to decrease flicker, and advanced 3D motion adaptive de-interlace, which eliminates jagged edges and improves image sharpness. The AVerTV Hybrid TVBox 11 also features 16:9/16:10 widescreen display, stereo sound, closed caption capability, parental control, picture pause, and auto power-off. There's also a full function remote control to put you in command of the action.

Our school relies on the AVerTV Box dvery day to deliver the morning news and silent dismissal to our elementary school students. In the past, we used TV's for our coaxial cable connection or VHS players with coaxial connections. However, TVs on carts take up too much space in the classroom and the old VHS players are starting to break (and are becoming obsolete)! Thank goodness the AVerTV Box has come to our rescue to allow us to still broadcast our inhouse TV to every student--and in a reasonably affordable way.

I use this unit to pipe TV onto a subset of my computer monitor, without using the PCs resources. This saves the space an additional monitor would consume. The picture-in-picture can be opague or semi-transparent, 1/4 or 1/9 of the screen (roughly) and can be moved (somewhat). A key problem is that it doesn't combine TV sound with other computer sounds, thus requiring either a second sound sys or awkward switching. The unit sometimes goes kooky for a second (picture jumping around screen), but recovers. Another dumb quirk is that it goes to full screen whenever PC goes to sleep, requiring you to put it back into picture-in-picture mode when you wake up the PC. A nice feature is the input plugs so you can feed various vid sources into PC screen instead of TV if desired.
