The Sigma 50-200mm f/ 4- 5.6 DC OS HSM is a compact, high-performance telephoto zoom lens. It utilizes Sigma's own Optical Stabilizer function to eliminate the effects of camera shake so subjects can be easily and clearly seen in the cameras viewfinder in addition to the image. It allows the use of shutter speeds up to 4 stops slower than normal for steady, handheld photography.
The lens incorporates SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in the front lens groups and is equipped with an inner focusing system to provide high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high-speed auto focus.
The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high contrast images throughout the entire zoom range. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 43.3inches (110cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.5. An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making it suitable for use with circular polarizing filters.

Comments about Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DC OS HSM High Performance Telephoto Zoom For Nikon Cameras:
Great lens for the beginner to intermediate photograher. Low cost, great OS, lightwieght. Somewhat noisy focus when using AF servo mode on action shots, but to be expected for a lens of this price range. Somewhat slow focus approx 1sec.

The only problem I had is that it was stiff out of the box. But after about ten minutes, it was working normaly. Just got home from the Grand Canyon and the pics were awesome. I love my new lens.

Comments about Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DC OS HSM High Performance Telephoto Zoom For Nikon Cameras:
I use this lens for landscape and general outdoor photography. Since I purchased it, I have rarely used any other lens.
I like the weight, finish and price of this Sigma lens. I have had several other Sigma lens over the years but none were as nice - weight, size, focus speed and clarity as this one.
The OS feature greatly simplifies shooting in the woods or trails. I rarely use a tripod with it.
So far, I have no complaints with this lens.

I have a Nikon D3100 and it works great! I am in no way a pro photographer either. At times there is a movement on the inside that might make you think something is broken which I believe is the motor for the stabilizing unit which may bother some people but its normal and completely fine. The stabilizing unit also runs the battery faster if you have it on all the time. I can get a good zoom and its great for doing portraits in doors or out. The top focus ring moves and it does take a bit to get used to but over all, this is an awesome investment. I plan to get a super wide angle lens next and we'll see, so far with quality to price ratio, sigma is definitely setting a standard.

Comments about Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DC OS HSM High Performance Telephoto Zoom For Nikon Cameras:
I have recently changed brands of camera to get on the same page as my wife. I used a 55-200mm Sigma on a Sony a200 with good results. This lens is totally different, with lens based OS. I like the lens so far but at times it seems to not work well with my Nikon's metering, (though that could be differences in camera brands). That being said, this lens seems better than my wife's 55-200mm Nikon in shargness and light fall of as well as contrast. It seems stronger and appears to have a better mount. And the price! I will continue to be a Sigma fan.

Having a cold snowy winter we have many types of birds at our feeders. This lens is lightweight, fast focus and powerful enough to get up close photos of them as they interact with each other at the feeders.

Comments about Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DC OS HSM High Performance Telephoto Zoom For Nikon Cameras:
I must admit this is not the lense I use the most, I much prefer shooting fast primes, but since I need something with more reach to get good photos of my little girl playing in the park, I purchased this inempensive zoom.
It is sharp and fast enough when you have good lights. The build is of high quality and it has a metallic mount, unlike the plastic mount of the nikon 55-200.
the focus ring moves when focusing but you get use to it after a while.

Operates smoothly and quietly.Lighter than Nikon.Found that the images are sharp and tracking is fast. Remember to order a filter to protect the front of the lens ( UV ).Great value! I bought this as backup to my Nikon 18-200 which has been giving me tracking problems.[...]Thanks.

This lens is very good value for money. It is not
Nikon glass, but you would not find any other lens with the same quality at the B&H price tag.
I use it for still photographs, wildlife and land
scape, and it delivers very good results. It is strongly constructed, light weight and easily interchangeable. The OS works excellent. Clear at even 200mm and nice bokeh. You can`t go wrong. Thanks B&H.

Comments about Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DC OS HSM High Performance Telephoto Zoom For Nikon Cameras:
Purchased this for my Nikon D50 and absolutely love it.
Normal usage is for outdoor nature & wild life photography, family recreation photos, weddings, etc.
Shots taken in the middle of the zoom range aren't always as sharp as they should be (it varies). Images seem crisp and clear at full (out and in).
The auto-focus speed is more than acceptable.

I haven't been able to play around with the new lens much, but am happy with what I have seen so far! It's a fast lens, and seems to take great pics! I also like the metal connection as opposed to plastic. I appreciated all the reviews I was able to read on this product to help with my decision. [...] was happy to start working with my new toy!
