Compact, light and reasonably sturdy. Focuses quickly and quietly. Well suited to those like me who go walking and cycling for extended periods and don't want to be burdened by a large, bulky lens. My only criticism is that Sigma has changed the spec as this lens has a plastic lens mount and test reports I had read prior to purchasing this lens stated that it had a metal lens mount. In addition it would have been nice if OS was included in the Sony mount version so that users could choose between the in-camera or lens systems.

This lens was purchased for vacation travel. It is a perfect size and with the image stability a tripod was not needed. I was able totaled some great photos on vacation. The Sigma lens is well built and I was able to get some sharp photos with it. What I like most about this lens is it's compact size, it's functional without being overbearing. Another fine product from Sigma without breaking the bank.

Purchased this lens as more of a rainy day lens as I dont shoot a lot of telephoto. In Australia, the lens still retails for at least AUD400 so it was a bargain and performs well.

Lens produces sharp quality images even at the full 200mm and I have used it at 1/650th with no issue. Only negatives I found were the HSM not being overly fast, certainly not as fast as I though it would be, and the OS was causing shake on my body stabilised Sony.

All in all a great lens I think with all things considered - price, use, quality etc

Recently purchased to go with my Sigma 17-50 EX HSM OS. Build is very good, though handles with much less weight than the EX. Paired with my a580, I'm really pleasantly surprised with performance so far. Focus is quiet and consistently accurate. I use lens OS versus body SSS, preferring the stabilized image in viewfinder. I find it works great.

I'm new to the DSLR scene. I bought this Sigma and the Sony SAL-55200 for comparison. So far I like the Sigma much more. The Sigma is quieter and faster focusing than the Sony and when taking video I use the in lens OS vs. SteadyShot to allow longer video shots before sensor overheats.

Great quality, Images crisp, clear, quickly focus, good aperture.
Its compact size makes handheld shooting easy at all focal lengths and easy to carry. With a range that is useful for candid portraiture, capturing children playing in the backyard, amateur sports or even wildlife at the zoom it's a great all purpose lens. The OS allows for okay hand held shots.
I am happy with my purchase!!

Shoots pretty good video on the sony nex bodies with the sony LA-EA1 lens adapter if you dont mind manual focus. Using the sony adapter the AF works very slow out to about 100mm and only about 50% of the time will the focus be acceptable. AF does not work at all for shooting video. I expected this so it is no big deal for me, and I choose to use MF 100% of the time anyway. The OS allows for okay hand held shots out to 100mm and thats about it, but for video it is good all the way out to 200mm. On a tripod you can get decent results across the whole focal range both video and still shots. I am happy with my purchase since I bought it as a economical way to shoot video with my nex bodies.

This is a great value lens, and in my opinion can't be beat for the price. I photograph everything from wildlife to portraits to flowers and macro shots to landscapes. while this is not a do all lens, it fits right in and works for anything that fits within its 50-200mm zoom range. The build quality is also exceptional at the price, with no slop in the workings of the lens. It also comes with a lens hood that conveniently stores backwards on the lens. The focus is internal, so it good for polarized filters, tulip hoods, etc. All in all a great lens for the price. On rare occasions the auto focus is not quite right but taking a couple of shots or using manual focus, will eliminate this from being a problem.
