Comments about Cowon S9 MP3 Player (Titanium Black):
- First of all, it has the very best sound of all mp3 players I have had or seen!!! I've had Creative Zen, Ipod Classic 30Gb & 80Gb (for 3 years) and have friends who own Itouch, Sony, Sandisk and other and there's simply no better sound to my ears than the Cowon's! There are tons of sound settings, close to 40 preset EQ (which, other players might have a lot of EQ settings too, but there's nothing like the Cowon's JetEffect BBE sound) plus 4 user settings which you can tweak in crazy detail and to your very best liking! I must say I feel like a little sound engineer ;-] Besides all those, you have L-R balance adjustment, play speed (very cool to use with videos too), pitch correction, reverb settings, stereo enhance etc! I'm just amazed at the beautiful sound I now can enjoy =) Of course you need a good pairs of headphones too… - The menu layout is very nice, very intuitive, given also the possibility of changing the menu theme, menu icons, wallpaper etc. It is also very responsive; you can scroll through menus in no time! Those people who say that it is not a handy UI, I really don't know what they're talking about. It's very beautiful; some of it's features are actually better than apple's, like not having to go way out of your menu for an EQ change for instance. But it simply is very nice. The startup is fast too, if it's set for sleep mode then it's instant.- beautiful AMOLED screen. Simply awesome, beautiful colors! Nice size!- Supports flash player! Very cool! There are many games and apps for the Cowon S9 although it doesn't necessarily shine in this area. I have a nice scientific calculator on it (helps in college) a piano app, drums app, games and what not… just to name a few.- very nice battery life!- handy voice recorder option which also records line in! Has radio, text viewer, photo viewer etc. like some other players … Just one tip: when you first start this player do not set your region to Europe as it will have a volume limit on the sound for some reason. I was just about to give it a star minus for the fact that it isn't loud enough, but I've just found out how to fix it and it's awesome now.To sum it up, I must say I've been listening to a lot more music since I have this player just to enjoy the awesome sound it has and so far it hasn't wore off :) If you wanna have the best of sound then I am confident you will not be disappointed with the Cowon S9. If you want Wi-Fi, more apps and games then you'll probably be happier with an Itouch or something else. And since you're looking at this fine product at B&H store, I'll gladly tell you, you're at the right place! Look no further, B&H is the best place to shop for electronics!

Comments about Cowon S9 MP3 Player (Titanium Black):
Cowon has been a leader in top of the line portable audio products for a while now, and the S9 is no exception to that rule.
The sound delivered by this puppy is outstanding, along with it's wide variety of EQ effects, BBE+, etc.
The output on the S9 is also quite capable of driving some very high impedance headphones for great sound quality.
On top of the great sound quality, the S9 is physically built like a tank. The glass for the touchscreen is Corning's Gorilla Glass. It is practically impervious to scratches from everything from the car keys in your pocket, to the steak knife in your kitchen drawer (youtube it, they've tested it :P). It feels very lightweight, like you could crush it in your hand, but it is very sturdy and durable.
The 32GB version proves a TON of storage space for all your needs. Every album I have put on here is in FLAC, and I still have 8 Gigs of room to spare.
The beautiful AMOLED touchscreen is also worth mentioning. It gives you vibrant, clear, and crisp colour of your videos and images at any angle and just looks simply breathtaking.
It should be noted that the battery life on the Cowon S9 is exceptionally long during playback.
The only complaint I can think of is that you have to double touch every selection in the Cowon GUI, like double-clicking on a computer, but it is a minor gripe.
All in all, I give the Cowon S9 a 5/5 and recommend it to anyone who wants a quality mp3 player and has the intelligence to buy anything other than an ipod :P

Comments about Cowon S9 MP3 Player (Titanium Black):
The Cowon S9 has the potential to be a very strong portable audio player. It's hardware is top-notch, but Cowon has quality-control issues with their firmware releases.
Hardware:
The S9 is smaller than I expected, but it fits comfortably in a hand. Audio output is free of noise and distortion when driving the included IEMs as well as efficient but higher impedance headphones such as the Sennheiser HD280-Pro. The capacitive touch screen is accurate, and the screen is made out of Gorilla Glass, so scratching it on accident is quite unlikely. While the device isn't capable of automatically pausing music when the headphones are unplugged, it does have five buttons along the top edge of the device that can be operated by tactile feel alone to control the volume, pause playback, or skip songs. Battery life is amazing; 50+ hours of music playback between charges is quite accurate.
Software:
The player can be set to use MSC mode where any computer will recognize it as a flash drive; there is no lock-in to a proprietary music transfer program like there is in the Zune or Ipod. The player also supports MTP mode to integrate as a mobile player with Windows Media Player, Winamp, or other compatible software.
Audio codec support is fairly broad: MP3, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and APE files can be played; support for MP4/AAC files is notably missing. Video codec support is decent with support for WMV7/8/9 codecs in ASF/WMV files and DivX/Xvid codecs inside AVI files. (later firmware versions appear to unofficially support the h.264 codec when encoded in a specific configuration at the cost of extremely reduced battery life). The device supports displaying JPG images, but not PNGs.
Firmware Bugs and Limitations as of v2.52:
- The v2.51 firmware has issues reading ID3 tags from Ogg files (which are relatively uncommon); the v2.52 update broke reading the more common VorbisComment tags in Ogg files. Cowon recommends not downgrading below firmware 2.52 on models purchased after March 2010 to prevent hardware damage.
- The software is is only capable of reading 8000 files and 4000 folders from the flash storage. Similarly, one is limited to no more than 256 favorites and 256 bookmarks. This is the 21st century; any respectable programmer can eliminate statically allocated arrays to remove these limitations.
- The built-in Picture viewer includes all the cover.jpg cover-art images from the Music folder in the default Pictures view. There is a large amount of lag scrolling, the only reasonable way to navigate to the desired image is to use the folder-based navigation.
- PNGs are not supported, so I had to manually convert all my cover-art to JPG files.
Despite the firmware bugs/limitations, I like the S9 better than the Zunes and Ipods, although I wish Cowon did better testing of their firmware updates before releasing them.
