Iomega 500GB eGo Portable Hard Drive (Ruby Red)
The 500GB eGo Portable Hard Drive from Iomega is a portable hard drive in an external housing that can be powered via the system bus. The drive features a rotation speed of 5400rpm and a large 8MB data buffer. It is an excellent storage solution for notebook computer users.
- 500GB allows for storage of approximately 37.5 hours of uncompressed DV digital video, the equivalent of 106 4.7GB DVD video discs, or up to 125,000 MP3 files
- Protection Suite includes McAfee VirusScan Plus, Iomega QuikProtect, EMC Retrospect Express Backup software, and the MozyHome Online Backup service, ensuring that your data is backed up and virus-free. The software disc itself is not included; it must be downloaded via the Internet
- Small and stylish solid steel enclosure
- Drop Guard protects the drive from damage caused by drops from heights of up to 51" (1.3 m)
- The eGo is hot-swappable and plug and play, allowing you to connect and remove it from a computer without the need to reboot
- Powered by the system bus via the data connection cable, the tiny drive is easy to take with you on the road

I purchased this item to store precious photos, documents and music in case my hard drive in my desktop would crash (has happened before).
I've had an IOMEGA Zip drive previously and never had any problems so I decided to stay with the same brand.
I simply plugged the supplied cable into my desktop and proceeded to "drag and drop." it was so easy and flawless. No formatting needed or anything else. Great product, great value.

I bought the 500GB eGo Iomega hard drive to use as a portable unit with my MacBook. I'm a photographer and needed the extra storage capacity, primarily for image files. Iomega ego portable hdd is extremely sleek looking and very light. I really like the thin/small profile and glossy ruby red color. Product itself is great but free software offered by Iomega is just ok. They are not as intuitive to use as I'd like when downloading specific files and/or folders.

I don't like giving anything 5 stars but this was close. It suprised me when I was doing my backup files on how fast it transfered it. My other external (WD-400GB) wasn't as fast. I would say that this is a safe buy. You need a hard drive, this is the one for you.

Extremely easy to use. I backup my laptop more frequently now that I have a protable backup drive. No need for an external power source and the drive comes with a USB cable. I share data with my desktop computer very easily. I can find no faults with the unit and highly recommend it.

Used as back-up storage device for netbook, mainly photos & videos. Secure data system also available. Love the hardened exterior; dropped on concrete and it still functions. Bright red colour doesn't match black laptops/netbooks.
