This Fanatsea BigEye Accessory Dome fits the Canon WP-DC28 and WP-DC34 housings for the Canon PowerShot G10, G11 and G12 cameras. When used with adapter 4703, the dome can also be used with the Canon housing for the G7 and G9 cameras. When used with adapter 4707, the dome can also be used with the Canon housing for the S90 and S95 cameras. The accessory dome corrects size distortion that makes everything appear 25% closer underwater. This allows you to get closer to large subjects.
By having less water between you and your subjects, your underwater photos will have more contrast and improved color saturation. The dome can be attached or removed underwater. It is perfect for shooting seascapes, divers, shipwrecks and schools of fish, without moving further away from the subject.
Note: Prior to purchase, confirm that no additional adapter is required to fit this dome to your housing.

I was used to a Nikonos with 15mm lens and then to a Nikon D70 in an Aquatica housing with the 10.5mm lens and a dome port. I bought a G11 as a backup camera and as the Canon housing was relatively inexpensive, I bought one to give a try. The firts thing I missed was the wide angle capability of the Nikonos and the D70, critical in the places where I dive and the type of photos I take.
The BigEye came as an alternative and I was surprised by the results. It is easy to attach and remove even underwater (definetely a plus when compared to the Nikonos and the D70) and image quality is quite good. I think I am going to use this setup instead of the D70 on most dives from now on. Considering the price, it is a great buy.

This object is a round plastic dome over a flat glass element with air between them. It uses air as the main optical element. The directions state that the macro focus setting is to be used at all times on the G11 when using this accesory. It blocks the internal flash, you need an external strobe with this product. There are no antireflective coatings. Any image facing a light source has terrible flair problems. Any image taken underwater pointed in the direction of the sun has terrible flair. I even got lens flair from flash reflections of suspended particles. When used side by side with the Fantasea FWAL-02 on a Fuji camera for comparison sakes, I got far better performance with the all glass FWAL lens.
In summary the worst flair problems I have ever experienced. The main plus was that I did not experience the internal fogging reported by others, however I only did tropical (warm water) dives.

Comments about Fantasea Line BigEye Accessory Dome f/ Canon WP-DC28 & WP-DC34 Housings:
I have a Canon G12 and one of the problems with it is that traditional wet wide angle lenses can't be fitted to its housing. That's not to say that you couldn't buy an adapter and physically mount one, but that once mounted you have to zoom in so much to get rid of the vignetting that you end up with the same field of view you started with. The only alternative was to buy a very expensive housing (Fix, RecSea etc) and disable the zoom to stop the lens hitting the port. I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money and anyway had already purchased the Canon housing. Having read many differing reviews on this dome - some good, some bad - I still wasn't sure whether it would be any good but I decided to take the plunge and get one anyway.
First impressions were okay. It seemed well built and was a secure snug fit on the housing. It also felt quite heavy - out of the water at least.
I first used it in the Red Sea. I must confess that I was quite surprised the difference it made as the angle of view is much wider with the dome fitted, although certainly not "Wide Angle". The quality of the image is still very good - if anything the chromatic aberration at the very edges seems less pronounced although it does appear a little softer at the extremes.
I don't consider it an easily removable accessory - once it was fitted and in the water it stayed on. Too much messing around taking it on and off underwater...
Overall I'm very happy with it. As a cheap alternative to the expensive housing route it performs quite well. It must be said however that if you're considering a G12 but haven't yet purchased the camera then buy a Canon S95 instead - a much smaller camera/housing package meaning you can use the wide range of currently available traditional wet lenses.
