It is definitely helpful at widening the view. But, it creates a noticeable "fish-eye" effect. So, if there are vertical lines (i.e. walls, doorway, etc.) the will be visibly curved.

Comments about 16x9 Inc. 169-HDWA6X-72 EXII 0.6x Wide Angle Adapter:
I bought this lens to use when shooting a house for a realty client. I went with the 0.6x instead of some of the 0.7x lenses i saw because I wanted to get the widest image possible considering how small some of the rooms can be. I used the lens with my Sony HVR-Z1U and it works great. There is distortion from how wide it is, but I was ready for that and it's very tolerable. There were some instances where the distortion wasn't even noticeable because of the way the room was and the distance to the subjects. The lens makes the camera a little front heavy, but it was on a tripod the entire time and it wasn't an issue. I've used it elsewhere a bit and it works and looks great. I haven't noticed any vignetting or blurriness around the edges. The only thing I wish was different was that it wasn't screw mount to the camera. If it could take advantage of the built-in bayonet mount on the camera that would be awesome. However, if that was the case, it wouldn't be a universal lens and would be specific to the Z1U and other cameras that have that mount on the front. For what it is, I am very happy with it and look forward to having it in my arsenal of options in the future. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it does distort the image. If it didn't distort, it'd be perfect, but for the price and quality, it can't be beat.
