Comments about AKG DPT 700 Digital Bodypack Transmitter for DMS 700 Wireless System:
I had the misfortune of being the wireless engineer on a show using 22 of these. Although AKG's intentions were good, the technology just felt like it was not quite there. I will say the sound quality on these is excellent. We were using these with a variety of DPA elements. The sound on these was incredibly clear and there is no companding like you would have with a non-digital system. However, the sound quality was not worth the hassles. The biggest among these was the poor RF reception. Dropouts were a constant problem. Even when we put the antennas right in front of the stage and had AKG's technicians guiding us. We also had two Shure UR1Ms for this show with no dropout problems.
I was also disappointed with the build quality of these. Several times, I had the little plastic display windows pop out. We have also had to send three of the DHT700 handhelds back for repairs.
These are also considerably bulkier than similar systems.
I have also worked with the Lectrosonics SMDA wireless system. The Lectrosonics is a similar digital system but I found it to be much more reliable and user friendly. It feels like the AKG product was rushed to the market to compete with Lectrosonics.
