I have transferred many VHS tapes to data files with Video Capture, and it works perfectly with my Mac Mini. I used svideo and standard audio cabling from my VCR. The setup was absolutely simple, and it's great to be able to crop at beginning and end so that I can leave the recording running longer than the tape and then cut it to size without needing to open with a video editing program. My end result is DVDs, and burning the data files with title and chapter menus is easy using iDVD. The whole process takes a long time, but it runs unattended. The latest online update to Video Capture added a couple of nice features - audio level control, and video color, brightness and contrast controls. This update came out soon after I installed the version from the boxed set, and was a welcome enhancement. The A/V settings are set in a Preferences dialog box, and are remembered from one session to the next. Very nice.[...]

I am sure that this product does exactly what they advertise, BUT! It did NOT do what i thought it would. There is no way to use this device to capture to any application but their recording program. This does nothing for what i want. If you want to record movies into their program use this. If you want to put your video into Wirecast, Flash Media Encoder, Ustream, Justin.tv this is NOT the device for you.

Comments about Elgato Systems Video Capture USB Analog Video Capture Device:
I used the device with a Mac to convert old family videotapes dating from 1978 to digital files, for eventual transfer to DVD. The Elgato was remarkably easy to set up, and worked exactly as advertised. Video quality was quite good, considering the age of the original tapes. There are some basic editing features and menu choices that allowed me to prepare the digital files for easy transfer to DVD disks.

We were looking for a video transfer product that was easy to use and compatible with our MAC. The Elgato really worked well. It was easy to transfer to iMovie once the video was on our hard drive. B&H had the best price.

This little thing is so easy to use. It was super easy to set up. It works perfectly. I've only had it about a week and I've already transferred about 20 hours of video from old,old VHS tapes to digital. I am so pleased that something finally lived up to its hype.

Bought the Video Capture USB Analog Video Capture Device to save and preserve memories from old VHS tapes. It is incredibly easy to use! Install the software, plug in the A/V connections and you're ready to go. Simple, intuitive program. The only down side is realizing a bunch of those old tapes aren't worth saving!

Comments about Elgato Systems Video Capture USB Analog Video Capture Device:
I'm using this product to convert home videos on VHS-C to .mp4 files. The product is simple to use with a push-button interface. The hardware is extremely simple to connect and, so far, has worked flawlessly. The quality of the videos matches the quality of the video tape image. Great buy when you compare what it costs to pay a service to perform the same conversion.

I bought this product to digitize obsolete 8 MM video tapes. It connected directly to the 8MM camera making the conversion painlessly and flawlessly. It's the second Elgato product I have purchased (EyeTV Hybrid) and it performs as good as the ad said it would. Great product. Great company.

Comments about Elgato Systems Video Capture USB Analog Video Capture Device:
easy to connect and record with. But I don't understand the imovie or movie editing system it puts the material on, can't use it properly without extensive training so I exported the video to my iMovie on my Mac for post editing.

For basic vhs conversion this couldn't have been any easier. I wasn't interested in fancy digital conversion bells and whistles, just some basic input to edit features. Would highly recommend.

I use this product to transfer videos from a vhs-c camera, vcr, and to record off my analog television to my IMAC 27''. I also use it to transfer audio cassettes to the computer.
This already comes with the software you need to capture video. It does not come with conversion software. Also note that you cannot capture straight unto IMOVIE. I also wish that the capturing screen were larger.
