The gels (plastic) work pretty well, but the tabs that hold the gels in place on the Diffuser are a bit short so they can fall out. I suppose this is a fault of the diffuser more than the gels, but since the mounting method is common for both, I suppose it applies.

Other than this minor fault, they are a pretty decent accessory.

Slides right between the lightsphere and flash and gives me the color temp I need indoors with tungsten light.
Haven't used the others.

I bought these in conjunction with Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible Diffuser[...] I could not get the Gel Filter to stay on the Lightsphere Collapsible Diffuser. I even watched Gary's video to make sure I was applying the filter correctly, I was. I tried each of the filters and not one of them stayed on.

If you want to balance your flash with ambient light than you cannot pass these up!

It is well designed, but adds too much color for my tastes.

The color of these don't seem to match my gels very well. The mounting isn't so good; when you have a flash in the unit it protrudes too far and pushes the gel up off it's posts. This could have been implemented much better. I would recommend taping a gel to your flash before mounting the light sphere rather than buying these.

i like the way the amber gel fills the skin, anywhere.

looks like a photoshoped pic down to the spot.

the thing is that these fong stuff are pretty expensive, so i thought by buying the gels i wont have to get the amber and that im getting the 3 extra colors, great!

wrong.

though it is not as bad, but i would say get the dome instead.

im pretty sure that using the amber gel with reguler dome, or just the amber you'll get basiclly the same effect, maybe even a better spread with the gel.

but the dome is easier to install, faster, and it wont make you put the dome right on its lip what causes it to fall off sometimes.

also, the dome will affect the subject more than the enviorment...which is better.

and last.

i don;t see one good reason to use the red green or blue.

i've tried and the crazy colors just doesnt work with diffusion.

even as fillers, they just look like bad color casting.

the wole point of color efects is when its sharp and noticeable, at least to my opinion.

im gonna try using them without the lightsphere itself and see what it does.

Great add on to any speedlite. The diffuser really works great indoors as well as outdoors.

I like the effect that the original lightsphere has on flash shots -- I think it helps to produce really pretty, soft light, especially for portraits and weddings. However, I never bought one because I travel light, and it was so big. I couldn't carry it in my backpack, and would have to carry an extra bag just for the dome. That's why I was excited about this when I first read about it. It does do a good job -- I don't know how much it's like the original lightsphere because I never owned one or used one, just saw other photographers' results from it, so I can't compare and contrast the collapsible with the original. However, do like it, and think it makes a big difference in my portrait and event photos. The bad thing about it is that it is really difficult to get on to my SB600 securely. It wants to fall off. It takes me a couple of minutes to push it on there tight. It has fallen off a couple of times when I thought it was on, but turns out it wasn't on just right. So it's pretty distracting from your photography when it falls to the ground. Regardless of this drawback, I like it and am pleased with the results.
