I bought this machine as an inexpensive back up for my DSLR to use on the beach and underwater. Even though I had serious suspicions on image quality before I bought it, I definitely loved it by the time. The shutter button is so stiff that you must totally have a steady hand to prevent shaking otherwise the image comes out blurry but when you manage to stabilize your hand the image quality is quite good for a [$] camera but of course you should not expect too much. The on-off button at the back of the camera was not working when I first bought it, so I removed the buttons and saw that the silicon button was not fit to its place and the control buttons were not sealed properly, so I bought an all-purpose glue to fix it. I tried in the sea at about 3 meters (10 ft) and in the pool 2 meters (7 ft, took pictures and video. As long as you manage to stabilize the cam which is a hard issue due to stiff shutter, the results are good. -There is no audio in video, just the image. -The image is set to 1.3 mp as a default setting, but you can choose 3 and 5 mp with interpolation which may cause pixellation. -The menu is kind of hard to understand but when you get used to it, it is simple and easy to use. -The camera is buoyant in the water, even if it gets out of wrist, it won't sink. -The LCD screen is so small that you can not see the pictures you are about take clearly. -It uses 2 AAA size batteries and the battery consumption is average, you can take about 120-150 pics with a pair of new batteries but this number may increase if you use a good quality or charged batteries.-The camera can support micro sd card up to 2 gb.Overall, you should not expect so much from a [$] camera, but if your aim is to memorize your moments on the beach and underwater without concerning the image quality, this camera will do the job.

My rating would be 2-1/2 stars, but I couldn't figure out how to do that. My daughter and I took this camera to Bonaire with us for underwater shots. The quality of photographs was fair, and the ease of transferring them to my daughter's laptop was top-notch. However, the screen was nearly impossible to see underwater, and the camera shuts itself off after about 30 seconds, which resulted in me thinking the camera was on when it was off, so I was mistaken about too many of the great shots I thought I had gotten. I will invest in a better camera before my next trip.

Bought this camera for a cruise we took last week. I put a 16GB Micro chip in it. When I bought it the description said 2GB but when it showed up it said 16 was useable. Like others say the video display is a little tough to see but I couldn't have my reading glasses on in my mask. Practice a little with it before using it to get familiar with the buttons and what they do. They do push a little hard. I shot video while snorkeling and while going down the waterslide on the boat. I thought it did an excellent job, good color and clarity and it focused pretty well while moving pretty fast. Also I put a little Vaseline on the seal to prolong the useable life of the camera. The one still shot I took was above water but it came out very clear. I didn't try the zoom, like I said, my eyes aren't that good to be messing around with it. I just wanted something simple. I reviewed the videos on a 23 inch monitor and was amazed with the quality

Comments about Intova SS1000 Snap Sights Sports Utility Digital Camera:
I bought this camera when my Playsport Zx3 (which takes reasonably good stills and video) suddenly developed a leak and stopped working. What can I say? When you buy a sub $40 camera don't expect brilliant performance. I found that holding the camera VERY still, only shooting in fairly bright light, and really framing the shot carefully helped to the point where photos and videos were 'acceptable'. I encountered most of the limitations other reviewers have commented on as well but, again, for the price... My advice: Use a better quality camera (at least a point and shoot) for your usualy shots but consider this for hostile beach and UW conditions to preserve your better gear. If you're serious about doing more UW photography invest in a housing for your usual camera that is rated to at least 100'. The force of jumping into the water and the crashing of waves can easily equal or exceed the pressure of 10' of water. For that reason, don't rely to heavily on the apparent 10' depth rating of "waterproof" cameras like the playsport.
Other comments: Colours are a little flat, battery life is very short, downloading photos is uncomplicated.

My wife and I are turning professional photographers, we didn't want to buy a case for our Nikon, and wanted something for our 4 day cruise to Bahamas. While reading the past reviews, i wasn't sure if this would be a good camera to carry, we bought it anyways and took two other cameras as a backup.
The camera is very small, except for the shutter button, the other buttons are very very hard to press. The camera always started in the video mode, so at times we would think it took a picture ,but was recording instead.
The screen ofcourse is very tiny, and you can barely see through it, though once we got to using the camera more, it became easier
We didn't go about reviewing every picture or video we took, so i guess we saved the battery to some extent, and didn't have to change batteries for the 2 days we used it.
It takes decent pictures under water, not the sharpest or best, but it does a fair job. Maybe the light we were in also helped use.
Another thing which we realized after copying the pictures from the micro SD card to the laptop was that quite a few pictures were skewed, like the funny or crazy mirrors.
The shutter speed is not too fast, so if i was counting 1, 2, and 3...i would click at 2 and get the picture at 3...makes sense?
However, it still is a good camera for the price, and i will carry it to the next trip which involves using the camera in water

My five year old loves this camera. The MP are low 1.4 but she takes a gazillion pictures and movies and the memory keeps on going. The batteries don't last long but it's light and durable. We haven't tried it underwater yet but it seems to be sealed well. The navigation buttons are hard to push but the shutter button is big and easy to press. There isn't much lag and it's ready again quickly. We put the card into the computer and look at the pictures and movies together. It makes for fun projects.

The buttons are too hard to push.
You can not scroll through the pics to see if they are any good or delete.
When I hook up to my computer- the computer does not recognize it and will not load any pics.
YOu can not see anything underwater.....how do you tell if there is anything in front of you?
I paid 70 bucks for this camera and the store will not take it back. They no longer carry it as it is useless.

Waterproof function of the camera is great and easy to understand control option. However, buttons are difficult to depress and engage. Not recommended for action shots or children to use. Pictures taken downloaded fine, but were very difficult to see on the camera as the screen is small and pixels were poor. Basically you get what you pay for. A cheap waterproof camera. You'll want something different for everyday useage.

The good stuff: This is a no-nonsense, no-frills underwater camera. I was looking for something inexpensive, & value-for-money wise, it's pretty good. The instructions for using it aren't too easy to follow, but once it's set up, it works as advertised. Don't expect very high quality shots; even in 5Mp mode it's a bit "soft-focus" looking, even above water. But the LCD screen is a great improvement over trying to use a viewfinder wearing goggles! The fact that you can purchase a micro-SD card to expand the storage is a big plus, also.
The bad stuff:
Apart from difficulty deciphering the rather cryptic instructions, the main drawback I found was the stiffness of the shutter button; a child would not be able to operate it, and my wife has difficulty. Really, those are the only drawbacks

I bought this waterproof camera for a white water (very wet) raft trip, rather than buy a waterproof disposable. I have tried it out, the stills and videos are very good, and I don't have to get my good video camera wet. Very simple to use, too.

Used by non photo savy husband in poor visability situation and still got some nice pictures. Used with a micro SD from a cell phone and pictures uploaded great. Directions were not great but camera is uncomplicated and easy to use. If you use this camera more than a few times, it beats buying disposables. Fits nicely into a pocket in swim trunks. Zoom function nice. LCD screen very small and no flash but overall performs well for price.

I bought this camera to use snorkeling in Hawaii in June. So can't comment on that application yet. Works very well for a relatively cheap camera that is well sealed against the elements. Video mode works well - good real time light adjustment.

The few reviews I've seen online say the driver to download images is difficult to use. I bought a 1GB microSD card and reader, avoided the issue. For under $40, this is a great value. I found the pictures and video to be fairly good, you'd have to spend another couple hundred bucks to improve on it for underwater use. The screen is small, the controls take some getting used to. If you're at a tropical paradise and want some underwater pictures while snorkeling, and don't want to spend a lot for something used for one week, this is a great option. Hold it steady in camera mode, make sure there's plenty of light, and you'll be happy with the photos. Or just put it in video mode, and if you bought more memory, there isn't a time limit, just memory and battery life. If you dive, you've probably going to want to spend the money and get a better camera, or maybe use this as a backup.

Didn't expect much for a [$] camera (purchased at a Long's in Maui)-very pleasantly surprised when we downloaded the pictures! Pros-very inexpensive, since it's digital, you can download from memory and reuse it. You'll pay about as much for a film camera + processing, plus delayed gratification. Pictures and very good quality when you look at the price. Video function records as long as you have memory.Cons-small onboard memory, get a 2 GB microSD card (can be found for ~$10). I didn't try to attach through USB cable, since I have a SD-USB converter I just took out the microSD card, inserted it into the standard SD size converter, then that into the SD-USB converter, then plug into your computer. Easier than it sounds. The screen on the back is too small to be useful for aiming. Practice taking pictures and switching from camera to video mode BEFORE going into the water. There's a significant delay, and the camera/video icon is tiny, hard to distinguish with a mask on. 4 stars based on great value. I thought about spending $250-300 for one of the new compact sealed units, but for as many times as I need to take pics/video underwater, this does the trick.

Quite grainy(pixelated). Be sure to hold still when taking pictures(not so easy while diving).Probably works best in VGA mode.Color is quite washed out.

Took this little gem to the lake recently where its performance shined. Without the sd card (purchased extra), the capacity still "filled the bill".
Difficult download to pc since driver required (not compatible with any other setup). That's why I gave it 3 stars. Otherwise, fine.
