The Pearstone Cold Shoe Adapter for Canon HF Series attaches external microphones and lights to the HF-S10, HF-S100, HF-S20, HF-S200, and HF-S21 Canon camcorders, and possible future other Canon camcorders. The shoe's locking wheel keeps the adapter locked to the camera, ensuring that your accessories stay firmly in place. In addition, the screw can be tightened on the left or right side to hold accessories to the camera. For use by both left and right handed individuals, the bottom part of the shoe can be removed and rotated. This cold shoe adapter will not provide power to the accessories via the camera, so an external power source is required.

I have a HF S200 and the one thing I hate about it is the proprietary hot shoe. Why couldn't Canon just have the same shoe design as the HV series? Because of this annoying feature, you must get a cold shoe adapter, like the Pearstone, in order to mount 3rd party mics, camera lights, or wireless transmitters. An advantage of this adapter is that there is some room between the camera body and whatever you mount on it. When I put on a wireless receiver, it was easy to take it on and off.

I use this to mount a Rode SVM to the Canon HFS10. (Shame on Canon for this silly mini shoe, what were they thinking?) While it does the job, I don't trust it, and handle the camera very very carefully mounted to a tripod only. It doesn't fit the mini shoe securely, it seems impossible to mount it firmly and it will rotate in the shoe, and it's plastic construction for the base doesn't seem strong enough. It has alot of flex/wiggle to it with the SVM mounted. Granted, it hasn't broken yet, but it sure seems like it will. The top part that acts as the new shoe is aluminum and holds the mic very securely, but the base seems too weak. Very expensive for what it is.

I needed an adapter to fit the Sennheisser MKE400 shotgun mic, and it works perfect.

I bought this for use with my HFS-10, and so far it works very well. I use it with a Rode Videomic Pro, which is not exactly putting a lot of load on it. But for this application, it's fine. No idea how it is with heavier components. But I woud recommend it. It's an inexpensive way to get more functionality out of your Canon HFS seriews camera.

Comments about Pearstone Cold Shoe Adapter for Canon HF Series:
I bought this to mount the new Rode VideoMic Pro Compact Shotgun Microphone to my Canon HF200. The mic is tightly clamped to the upper part of the adapter, then a large screw clamp fits nicely to the Canon mini-shoe on the camcorder.
Easy to install, tightens easy, leaving the newest model Videomic Pro firmly mounted on top of the camcorder.

Comments about Pearstone Cold Shoe Adapter for Canon HF Series:
I used this on a Canon HF-S21 Legria to mount a Rode Stereo VideoMic over the proprietary Canon hotshoe.
It certainly does the job. The top knob to tighten the standard metal coldshoe is very secure. The bottom gear to tighten the actual adapter to the camera though is a little flimsy and plastic.
Due to the weight of the Rode Stereo VideoMic the adapter did slide "a little bit" despite attempts to tighten the bottom gear. As long as you're not shaking the camera for those handheld shots, you will be fine.

Comments about Pearstone Cold Shoe Adapter for Canon HF Series:
I use this cold shoe adapter to connect my Rode Videomic to my Canon HF S20 HD camcorder's hot shoe. The adapter fits the small canon hot shoe and I only wish this was made of metal instead of plastic. So far it has been working as it should but I do tend to retighten the locking mechanism as the day goes on and I am concerned that the plastic make of the lower locking mechanism may not hold up over time.

It does what it is supposed to and makes it very easy to bypass the useless proprietary hot shoe, but obviously you can't get power from it, so that could be a down side.

This shoe adaptor is quick and easy to install. Holds up your mics and lights anytime you need them. Small and compacted and doesn't affect any of the controls on the camera while it is attached.

This does not sit firmly in the camera hot shoe. It swivels. Unfortunately the Canon hot shoe may be hard to fit. It works fine but can swivel. I feel the screw tightening wheel could have been stronger.
Reccomend as there is no other adapter I know of.

This little adapter has been well engineered. Wish Canon had done as well with the original shoe on the HFS100 camera.
This adapter seems to be well made and durable.
