The Starter Series 17" from Autocue/QTV is a complete, entry-level prompting package that includes both hardware and software. This solution uses a mounting system with (3) possible configurations: on-camera, straight-read above camera, and floor- or tripod-standing straight-read.
The prompter is compatible with virtually any camera type and does not require a counter-balance weight. The included software is icon-based to facilitate its use. This unit is delivered flat-packed and pre-assembled, making it ready for almost immediate use upon delivery.

Comments about Autocue/QTV Starter Series 17" Teleprompter Package:
Firstly, I've ordered a number of items over the past two years from B&H and have found their service and timeliness of delivery (Canada) to be first rate.
I've had little experience with teleprompters prior to ordering the Series 17".
The unit arrived well packaged. The first problem I encountered is the lack of clear instructions on assembly. At first it appeared that the instructions were for a different unit until eventually I figured out what was being referenced. The most help was from an Autocue video on YouTube - I'm not sure why it wasn't included on the CD.
The unit was partially but incorrectly assembled - the monitor, for instance, was installed backwards.
The software program is a simple scrolling program which is fine but it's very difficult to find the sweet spot to to get the proper scrolling speed - a big time waster if you're rushed!
However, when you do eventually get it to work it does a nice job and my on-camera crew enjoy the ease of reading.

Comments about Autocue/QTV Starter Series 17" Teleprompter Package:
Very useable for a university student run TV station. Very quick setup as completely flat packed in the box. Just a few finger screws and you are ready to mount the camera.
Can be used in the field if you are very prepared but not recommended. All aluminum construction is very sturdy and well made.
Two problems:
1. Monitors are quite cheap, power buttons failed within a week. I figured out a work around, but this should not happen. The button would stick in so it could not engage on or off. A plus is the monitor mount is a standard VERSA mount so you can use your own.
2. The fabric on the top of the teleprompter is a bit transparent, if you are under a bright light you can see the reflection inside the teleprompter.

Comments about Autocue/QTV Starter Series 17" Teleprompter Package:
The prompter works great. Nice big clean image and software does what I need it to do.
Now for the bad:
The connectors to the monitor are very hard to get to making it neccessary to remove the monitor from the bracket, connect cables then reattach. this makes the quick setup not so quick after all and kind of a pain. Especially if you work with it on a regular basis. I suppose I'll figure out some sort of work-around, but they should have addressed this back in the design phase... also you need a choice of light baffel material. The large one that comes with the package is so big it drapes all around my tiny MiniDV camera making it difficult to find connectors/switches. A smaller one designed address this issue would be great and not too hard to do.
