I bought this router to replace to replace a 7 year old D-Link that I had in college. My main concern was signal strength - there were a couple areas in my house where the signal would drop out, one of which being my entertainment center. I decided I needed a higher powered router. So based on an article in Lifehacker, I decided to try this one out. First thing I did was set the TX power to 30dB, which is the max recommended power for this router. That would be great, except that no matter what I did, the max TX power was about 19dB, more than I had but not great. So I tried switching from DD-WRT to their "user-friendly" firmware, which by the way is NOT user-friendly at all compared to DD-WRT. This firmware doesn't report TX power so I'm not sure what I'm getting, but it doesn't seem to be any better. I've also experiences some wireless dropouts, not sure if that's the user-friendly firmware (which I've been using) or if it's just the hardware. I didn't use DD-WRT long enough to be sure. So the short of it is, signal strength was disappointing.

The USB HDD attach is cool, though it only works as a shared folder with the "user-friendly" firmware. Use can still use FTP if you use DD-WRT. My gripe here is that the HDD power save doesn't seem to work. I set it up to turn the power off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but it never seems to turn off.

Overall, it does everything you would expect from a router. And for the price, honestly I probably can't complain too much. But I feel the signal strength is not as good as advertised, and not being able to use the DD-WRT firmware was also a little disappointing. I'm not saying you shouldn't get this router, but I'd recommend doing a little more research than I did before making a decision.

Comments about Buffalo AirStation Nfiniti Wireless-N High Power Router & Access Point:

I use this to inter-connect a Popcorn Hour A210, several laptops & mobile phones and a Linux server using a mixture of wired and wireless.

    Everything works brilliantly.

After an upgrade to the latest DD-WRT firmware (which is one of the main reasons I bought this), I can use a 3G Broadband modem to provide internet connectivity to the whole house.

Only negative is that the signal isn't as good as I'd expected. It drops off pretty quickly as I move away, but that may be due to:
    a) Living in a brick-built house
    b) Missing out some vital configuration changes.

Overall, it's a brilliant piece of hardware - and fits seamlessly into my predominantly black tech center. (Always important)

I was looking for a replacement for the WRT54G, I was tired of being disconnected from internet every time that I started the utorrent software. Is a good router with decent memory and processor and it supports dd-wrt firmare. Has an usb port that I use to connect an external HD, is perfect to store torrent files and left them to be accessed by TV (DLNA), I don't need to left my computer running by hours, I connect an external HD to the router, select files to download and it is done.

            Fairly intuitve setup.
Improved performace 5 fold over old N router.
Paid about 1/2 for the router I was going to purchase (Netgear 3700) and I can't imagine the performance would be any better.
This was recommended by a friend, and I'm very pleased.

Excellent product; I was looking for a DD-WRT powered router and this one does the trick. I've had maybe 20 routers in the past - this one is what I would consider the best. Lots of customizations, excellent range (gets to anywhere in the multi-story house) and I can stream Internet video (HuluPlus, Amazon On Demand, Netflix, playOn) to any number of PCs and wireless TVs. Very satisfied with it so far. Excellent signal quality.
