The Panasonic DMW-MS1 Stereo Lumix Microphone is compatible with the Panasonic DMC-GH1 Digital Camera. With this microphone you can record audio in higher quality and from greater distances. The microphone has a 2.5mm (Sub-mini) connector, a 5.5" (140mm) cable and can record in monaural or stereo.

Although not in the same league as a professional mic, this one works well.
Plastic (what isn't today?) made but still, well built.
I haven't used it much but I believe it will do the job for a long time.

Extremely lightweight, correct size, does not block camera view. Nicely rendered stereo sound, plus good focus to the front. Too bad that there is not much audible difference between the on-board mike and the external mike, and this comes out on a standard MacBookPro.
The overall sound-space is good, the high freqs are warm, no hissing. The low end is free from echoes or reverb distortions. Would be great to have at least two gain input levels to select from, possibly three.
Another disadvantage is that you cannot regulate the input level during recording, though that may be device-dependent. If you found it otherwise, feel free to comment, but I tinkered with it while mounted on a Lumix GH2, and there are only presets for input level in the camera, and no on-the-fly controls.

I decided that a monoral sound track on a High Def Video was just cheap, so I bought this mike. I would have settled for a less expensive one, but I didn't find another with a micro stereo plug which the camera requires. It is light, nearly featherweight and not obtrusive. I can't complain about the sound quality because it is way better than the built-in mike. Only negative is its price.

Only used it a couple times so far, though produced clean and clear sound. Use it with both GH1 and GH2. Internal mics on these camera are pretty good - this mic is even better. A simply way to improve audio when shooting video on the Lumix G cameras.

For semi-pros and freelancers it is always a good idea to have your own Audio. For shooters, it isn't always convenient to run a dual system. Having your own mic, even a simple one that fits in the hot-shoe is a great plus! By giving yourself improved quality and audio capability you can not only add better sound but extend your services. Great for shooting interviews!
