The Joby Gorillapod GP2 SLR is an ultra-versatile miniature tripod that can be used with smaller SLR cameras with their basic zoom lenses attached. It is officially rated to hold 1.75 lbs (800g) of gear in any position you can fabricate.
Using thermoplastic elastomer fittings, Gorillapod's 3 multi-segmented flexible legs can be shaped to grip almost any protrusion-be it branches, doorknobs, rocks, various uneven surfaces...it is an innovative support solution.
Each of the Gorillapod's joints can bend and rotate 360° to wrap around objects. The bottom rubber segment on the legs is larger to allow it to be used in the traditional way.
A miniature quick release system with bubble level allows for fast set-up and removal, as well as some aid in getting your camera positioned just right.

This tripod was purchased for use with the Nikon P80 as a gift for my brother. He has recently gotten into photography and enjoys taking shots from unusual angles. The flexible arms of this tripod are great for fences, tree limbs, railings, etc. The rubber grips are also very nice, creating a stable base on just about anything for low light shots or self portraits. He particularly likes the level (which my Gorillapod does not have, so he gets bragging rights), as it comes in very handy for horizontal shots when you aren't quite sure if it is straight.
Was dubbed one of the best not-on-the-Christmas-list items he's ever received!
Concerned about long-term quality and putting more weight on it than a large point and shoot, but overall I think it's a fun and useful tool. It's not going to be the same as a 5 foot Manfrotto, but does things rigid tripods can't.

Does what it's supposed to and does it with ultimate compactness. It is however a bit tricky to contort into position and the 'head' portion is very stiff. Might loosen up with time.

I love using the Gorillapod for photography and video.
I have wrapped it around fences, branches and poles to take hard to get photos and videos. I wasn't sure if I was going to use the bubble level but I attached it and realized when I was shooting off an uneven boulder in the park for the right shot it came in handy.
Also great to wrap around your hand when filming at concerts.
I highly recommend the Gorillapod GP2.
Bought one for my Dad for Christmas and he loves it.

Would not hold up my T2i with Sigma 18-250mm Lens. The weight of the lens caused the tripod to slowly dip until it pointed downwards. Will likely exchange for the version with the lockable ball head.

I tuck this into the belt loop on the back of my camera bag and I leave the plate/level screwed on the bottom of my Canon PowerShot SX10 all the time. The only thing I don't like is that I have to take the plate off my camera to change the batteries.

I love this flexible tripod! It has been a photo saver for many hard to reach shots. I love the level that's incorporated in the head, it's a great little extra to have. Thank you Gorillapod!

If you want to make high quality pictures with the longer zoom point and shoot cameras the Gorillapod GP2 SLR is solid enough to hold them and much easier to pack and more flexible than a rigid tripod.

Great fun to play with even if you don't use it as a mini-tripod. Just a tip: store it stretched out not balled up and it is easier to use.
Totally light. Very stable with my Olympus e-p1.

I use the tripod with my Eos Rebel t2i, it seems quid sturdy as long as I use a small lens (18-55mm), but if I use it with a larger (heavy) lens or add-ons such as a fisheye the tripod can't support the weight.

This is great with the GF1. The bubble level is a nice option as it has been very helpful when doing wide-angle shots and video.
You have to learn a bit on how to unfold it without having to straighten every individual ball if you just want a regular tripod position (eg, straighten legs first, then just move the top ball), otherwise you spend some time adjusting every part.
Only problem I had with it, is that the head came with a slight widening that makes it a bit hard to dismount from the camera (don't need the lock mechanism at all since it was so hard). I guess the molding came a bit large on my unit, but a little sanding made it better.

This Gorillapod, with the flash shoe, is great for hanging a wireless flash (in my case, a Nikon SB-800) from all sorts of odd places.

This is an extremely handy little tripod! I was afraid that it would be gimmicky, however when I used it for the first time it performed flawlessly. It allowed me to secure my Yukon Night Ranger to my steering wheel, start recording and walk away from the vehicle without any suspicion from my subjects in a nearby vehicle. Super Handy!!

It is not as big and stable as a tripod (of course), but because of the size it is easy to bring it with you at all times. I haven't used it a lot yet, but it has worked very well untill now =) The feet could maybe have been a bit longer.
