I bought this computer to use for basic word processing and excel on the go as well as web browsing. You can't deny that the screen is small, but completely acceptable considering how ultra portable the whole machine is. Start up is fast and the battery life is surprisingly good. The black case shows finger prints really badly, but that's merely cosmetic. Overall an outstanding machine.

So far after a week it has done everything I want. A bit of a pain getting rid of all the junk that comes with XP, but it is not as bad as a Dell or HP machine. The keyboard is good and everything just works.

I got this for my wife, and she is very happy with it! Needless to say, the small size and weight are a welcome change for someone used to lugging around a laptop. Sleek design, comfortable keyboard with all special keys where you'd expect them.

You might feel cramped up by the display if you are used to a laptop or desktop display.

480p Flash video in Hulu was choppy at best, although it improved somewhat with the latest Flash update.

A few suggestions if you end up buying this:
- Delete the pre-installed Asus software if you aren't going to use it.
- Map CapsLock to Control and save your pinky.
- This is Windows XP, which is targeted by a lot of malware out there, including one called "AntiVirus XP 2010" that almost tricked me. Remember to use a firewall, antivirus, and a safe browser.

I ues my Asus as I do my desktop, but with greater mobility. It is smaller than my Dell Notebook and more user friendly... carry it around the house, in the car, on trips near and far... waiting for auto maintance, etc. The WSVGA screen has far better visability than those of my desktop or notebook. In the light, you notice there are sparkling blue "specs" that are cute. It is easy to use, highly mobile, and is a work horse of a little machine. It is faster than other Intel Atom netbooks I have seen... then back to the great LED-backed LCD screen. It is easy to connect to my cell phone (PAM). The only thing on the con-side is that lack of a good, reasonably priced docking stations. A docking station with an RJ-11 connection would be nice when one is in areas without high speed internet service... Bottomline -- it is a great little machine with a big personality

Cute as a button, works like a charm. Excellent quality. It was a toss up, the Toshiba netbook or the Asus. Bought the Toshiba for my neice and the Asus for myself. Both with Windows XP. A winner either way.

Small efficient, light, LONG battery life. On a screen this small you are not doing any meaty graphics or drafting work but that's what you have a desktop with a big screen for. What it does do is perform as you need it to - composing documents or spreadsheets on the go, internet browsing, media (picture and video) storage. The 160 hard drive is plenty for what you do here and the extra you pay for the better battery makes the difference as this is the type of machine that's meant to travel. This little guy gets the job done. As others have mentioned the case attracts lots of fingerprints, but hey, get over it. It looks good and the battery performs as promised. Great deal.

I purchased my ASUS 1005HAP netbook to track farm-related finances and do general Web surfing for educational and reference purposes. My home machine is a Mac G5 (dual 64-bit RISC) and I use a fairly powerful desktop computer in my day job as a systems analyst.

The machine is small, light and relatively well-built. No defects were obvious, and after three weeks of daily use I've yet to encounter any problems with the hardware or software. Others have complained about fan noise, but I don't perceive it as a bother. It is audible, but not annoying to me.

The touchpad has been difficult for me to get used to, though I admit most users would likely opt for a Bluetooth mouse, obviating the touchpad. In general, it is too sensitive for my taste and I get occasional false "clicks" if I make contact with the pad too forcefully.

I performed a RAM upgrade (1 Gb to 2 Gb) with no problems, and after the upgrade the machine was markedly more responsive. I am happy with performance using OpenOffice programs, GnuCash, SketchUp and Chrome. The machine plays YouTube videos well, though I suspect high definition video would cause problems.

OEM utilities for updating the BIOS and controlling Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. are elegant and work very well without the "OEM bloatware" feel.

Overall, I am very happy with this machine and would recommend it to anyone with modest computing requirements. I did, in fact, recommend it to my boss who bought one for corporate use. I plan to purchase another for my daughter to do schoolwork and basic Internet research.

It works well with a fast boot and long battery life. It's shiny surface does attract fingerprints and smudges easily and the battery charger becomes extremely hot when charging a drained battery--so much so that it could burn someone or cause a fire. Be sure not to cover the charger so it gets airflow.
The limited resolution of the netbook screen does not allow graphics programs to run.

It's a nice little computer. Worked right out of the box. The battery life is as described - long. The small screen means you should get new perscription glasses if your over 40. My complaint is that the screen would be easier to read if the hindge allowed it to open more wide to allow viewing better from above. This is especially important for those with bifocal glasses.

I bought it for my husband to use for surfing the net instead of our big/heavy laptop. He loves it and carries it around with him. N280 boot up is really fast, battery life is awesome. It tells you battery is low but you still have 3 hours of battery life left!
The keyboard is perfect for all hand sizes...my husband has big hands and I have small hands and we both love the keyboard. Would definitely recommend this product to friends and family. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of buying another one for my mom this Christmas.

We bought this netbook before traveling to Europe in order to keep up on e-mail and to do a daily download of pictures from our digital camera. It works great, keyboard is almost full size, so easy for ham handed guys like me to use, and battery life is astoundingly long. A great value IMHO. Size and weight are great.
