This is a great product with a long battery life. I take this portable device to school and the battery last about 10-11 hours if I'm typing and about 8-9 if I'm using the internet a lot. I also bought a portable CD/DVD-ROM and an external hard drive to go with it. I highly recommend this product for those of us on the run and need a laptop easy to carry.

I chose this netbook because it was hardware compatible with Linux, specifically Fedora 12. Fedora installed straight without any problems, and everything works as it should. The wireless networking works, the camera and mics work, and I can video Skype without any problems. Even the 3-D acceleration works, as do the Gnome 3-D desktop effects.

Although the sophisticated drivers which allow zooming and panning of the screen are not available on Fedora, the right hand edge of the pad serves as a scroll bar, which helps a lot.

The battery is great (I got the largest size), and lasts for active continuous use for about 5 hours. If you use it intermittently, you can get about 8-9 hours out of it.

The Intel N270 Atom processor is a single-core processor with hyperthreading. It copes well with most simple tasks such as browsing, listening to music, playing video. However, don't try doing too many of these tasks at once, you will notice the jerkiness/delays. Some cpu-intensive web sites (such as those with large Flash content) are noticeably slow and can be unresponsive for a few moments - although it does catch up eventually.

If I had any gripes (small ones), it would be that the screen resolution is a little small. The screen is in a widescreen aspect ratio, which is nice, but there are some dialogs and many web pages which are difficult to view because the vertical resolution is too low. I find myself scrolling up and down a lot! Also, the screen is too shiny; this makes viewing the screen in bright surroundings a little difficult.

If you are using the netbook for netbook-like tasks like browsing the web, sending and receiving e-mail and writing documents while on the go, this is a great netbook. It will show its limitations if you use it for highly cpu-intensive tasks.

This pc fits into small hand luggage, so light I can carry it all day in my shoulder bag without it becoming a pain in the neck. On budget flights with no entertainment this netbook plays movies for 7 hours fullscreen hi-res and still has juice left when you land. In the terminal there's usually free wireless; so whilst waiting for your connection, get your trip pics, vids and video chat up on the web before the next leg of the journey. If there's no wireless hotspot my Nokia with prepaid Vodaphone international roaming and prepaid data credits acts as a 3G modem to the net-book.
After a decade of desktops, this pc is now my only personal pc. The net-book is the heart of a more versatile desktop replacement system at home which ticks all the boxes. The full package is this net-book connected to: a 7 port usb hub, 22" lcd monitor, two mains powered external hard drives, 1 net-book powered external hard drive, mains powered sound system, wireless keyboard & mouse, external dvd burner, adsl2 broadband modem (either via cat 5 cable or home wireless). Just perfect. I just unplug the net-book quickly in the morning and take the it with me (with a micro usb mouse and usb wireless broadband dongle) then plug back in after work. Any work I did on the net-book during the day is simply there when I startup again, no transfers no synching to a desktop pc.
Expansion drives mean I can have a serious movie collection and backups. I have all my music and selected movies on the net-book in iTunes syncing my iTouch, My Nokia 5800 recharges from the Net-book and sync's contacts, messages, music and movies with the net-book. I run Picasa software to organise my pics and home movies, use the net-book card reader or it's bluetooth to the Nokia to transfer new pics and movies for editing and sharing online in emails, facebook or Picasa Online albums. I recommend and run Google Chrome as my Internet Browser and Google apps: Gmail, Calender, Documents online which saves disk space. I run Microsoft Office, mostly for spreadsheets. I recommend Cacheman software from Outer Technologies to max out performance of the net-book. I recommend doubling the standard RAM when you buy. Recommend WinPatrol software to control what runs at startup and what tries to run without your permission to speed up the netbook further. Recommend the KMPlayer software to play all your dvd's and other movies, high res, fullscreen, low battery usage. Recommend Winamp software to play all your music through your headphones with graphic equaliser, user friendly media library and plugins such as "LyricsMeaning" which displays the words to the songs on the screen as they play.
Recommend Partion Wizard software to backup your net-book I have 2 partions on the net-book hard drive, one working and one for backups. Plus I clone the whole net-book drive to an external hard drive regularly with the same software. I have 1.8 terrabytes of hard disk space in this system across 4 hard drives. 400 gigabytes of which is portable when I take the net-book and small external drive with me. Using either the cat 5 network cable or the net-book wireless, I can access other pc's around my home and share multimedia or documents. I also play movies on this netbook which are live elsewhere on the network on other pc's.

When I go overseas I take the net-book, spare 6 cell battery (thats about 14 hrs between charges which means days and days between power points.), ac charger and country adapter, external hard drive, external dvd burner, mini mouse, noise cancelling head phones, iPod cable and Nokia usb charge cable. It all takes up very little space. And when connected there is nothing more I need.

First off if you're looking for a great battery life this computer is a definite choice. 5 hrs of watching videos and it was still going.

Travels very very well, I can barely feel it's weight in my bag when I'm going to and from classes.

Very quick while powering up and powering down.

The only thing I found to be bad about this computer is the webcam, the program is hard to find at first and there are no "video effects" you can mess with.

Um, so, my girlfriend can fit this thing in her purse. The wireless is fast and I haven't even had to charge the battery after a week of moderate use. Not that I've noticed a performance problem, but I will probably upgrade to 2gb of RAM. It's perfect for what I bought it for -- portable surfing and music playback.

It's still too early to comment, but so far so good. I like the fact that it's extremely light...I travel a lot...so it's very convenient. I bought it online, [...] and B&H had the lowest price compared to other online sites. Even thought its say battery 10.5 hrs...the actual is around 6hr. But it's more than adequate for the price paid. The design is great!

I mostly use this computer for writing on the go and at meetings. It's small size is great for taking places. I am having to get used to the smaller screen and keyboard as compared to a full-size laptop. But, for such a small size, they keyboard only requires a little getting used to. The convenience of its small size and easy portability far far outweighs having to get used to a smaller workspace.

I love the blue color and yes it does collect fingerprints, but they wipe right off.

Overall, I'm very pleased.

it's still early, but so far so good.
bought the computer to be a companion to my laptop. it's great for all the reasons i bought it, weight, size, speed, etc.
the only thing is that, for a tech-idiot like me, i forgot to ask some questions about transferring programs and have to figure out some stuff.

I bought this netbook to make traveling a lot easier and it has worked out great. Really small and lightweight and the battery last forever. No more looking for that plug in the airport to recharge. Screen is small so wouldn't want to use it for my main PC but is great for traveling. Boots up really fast and the processor is way faster than my old desktop PC. Have a full version of MS Office 2003 and make large graphic intensive PowerPoint presentations with no problems. Only gripe I have at this point is that I would prefer a smooth rather than textured touchpad for faster movement and 2 separate mouse buttons. Also, when moving the mouse pointer it often turns to an O and freezes briefly. I think this is a software setting but I haven't been able to figure out how to make it stop. But this is only a minor annoyance and easily overlooked since everything else is great. Also, a word to the budget shopper. There is a slightly cheaper version of this computer that is the first edition of this model that has a battery that only lasts 4 hours instead of 10. Well worth the extra money to get the long lasting battery. Also, don't need to buy an extra case since it comes with a soft case.

I recently purchased the ASUS 1005HAP to take the place of my old laptop. I use the netbook to connect virtually the office, check emails, and work on projects when I have down time between meetings or when I am on the road. It is small enough that I can carry it in my bag - eliminating the need to carry a separate laptop bag.

What is great: It is small enough to carry with ease, powers up very quickly, VERY easy to set up when you first power it on, and has more than enough memory and processing power. Lastly, this model is a gem in that the battery power lasts on average 8-10 hours!

What I don't like about it: really, I can't think of a thing. If there was an innovation that they could look into - it would be a retractable power cord to make carrying the power cord a little easier. Maybe with time.

Highly recommend this little powerhouse!

Best small netbook on the market. Simple, easy to use, nice keyboard, good features like hot keys to control sound, touch pad, wireless/bluetooth connections, volume, etc. Great portability, SMD card slot is great for fast downloading of photos. Used it on vacation, very portable at 2-1/2 lbs, clear backlit LCD screen.

So what, most people's reviews say it's hard to keep fingerprints off the darker color cases...not a factor if you are going for performance.
