The Acer Aspire One is a basic but very portable wifi machine with a normal keyboard for people who can type. It is fine for email/IM, web surfing, simple docs, etc. I made Skype calls using wifi without problem. Mine has XP, which is OK, Win7 should be faster.Almost no software is included, so be prepared to put in lots of effort to add functionality.An external DVD drive is a must, just be aware that the throughput may be slower than you want to reliably play DVDs. Best to copy DVDs into .m4v and play in iTunes if you can, note that other media players tend to crash. Consider adding another gig of RAM to make video work better and to permit more browser frames, again it tends to crash if you run multiple frames in Firefox or IE.If you can, consider the AS1410, which at [$] more [$] may give you better performance and flexibility in an 11.6" footprint.

This netbook computer is shared between an adult and a child. It sees use in every room of the house, depending upon the time of day, the current need and who's using it. It's used mostly to access applications and information on the Internet.

It's great! It's lightweight and the slightly larger screen (over earlier models) makes viewing easier. We use the wireless function to communicate with a router in the basement. No problems, even two flights up.

We have not used it for high-powered games or anything else that might require super horsepower for graphics so we can't comment on that type of use.

The only thing we don't like is the mousepad. Of course, we don't like ANY netbook or notebook mousepad like this. So, we bought a wireless mouse with a nano receiver (so small you hardly notice it sticking out the side of the computer). The particular mouse we bought comes with a little hook to attach it to the netbook when carrying it around.

Nice computer, especially for the price.
