Comments about Fantasea Line EyeDaptor Adapter Ring:

I bought this product because the Canon underwater housing WP-DC34 for the Cannon G11 does not have a wet-mount lens thread. The adapter is held in place by way of a pair of bungies which are hooked to the housing. Although it is not the ideal means of attaching wet-mount lenses to an underwater housing, given the limitations of the WP-DC34, it fulfills its purpose adequately, with caveats:

1. Once attached, the adapter can still be bumped out of position since the bungies are by necessity stretchy, so it is essential to check that it is firmly in place before shooting.

2. With the adapter in place, the photographer must zoom the lens slightly to prevent vignetting.

3. The adapter blocks the output of the internal flash, so when using this product, it is also necessary to use an external strobe to illuminate the subject.

4. The adapter can most easily be used with short wet-mount lenses, such as a macro lens. A fish-eye or wide angle lens may be too heavy for the support that the little bungies provide, thus pulling the adapter off the front of the underwater housing.

Comments about Fantasea Line EyeDaptor Adapter Ring:

This lens adaptor does what it is supposed to do - allows you to use a wet lens with a WP-DC28 housing, however, it is clumsy and awkward to attach while underwater (especially if you are a cold water diver and using thick gloves) and blocks the inbuilt flash. As I use a strobe this is not much of an issue but there are many quality underwater photographers out there who only use the inbuilt flash. For them, this is a problem. During the course of a dive I like to have the flexibility to change the type of photography I do. This adaptor does allow for that, it is just awkward and time consuming. On the positive side it is reasonably priced and, when attached, does exactly what it is designed to do, hold a wet lens in place.
