Westcott Umbrella - Soft Silver - 45"
Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining.
Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.
- Westcott umbrellas are rated safe for use with lights up to 1000 Watts.
- This size is perfect for a 1-2 person head, or head-to-waist shot, or a 4x6 ft product setup.
- This umbrella has a permanent black backing, which prevents light scatter.

I use this attached to an Alien Bee head along with some hot shoe strobes. Seems to work nicely. I like the quality. I've had umbrellas that seem cheap and this one has a nicely constructed feel to it.

I own three of these umbrellas and they offer a great quality of light. You get the punch of a traditional silver umbrella with the softness of a white umbrella. I've used them for head shots (I love the catch lights umbrellas produce) to waist level shots with good effect. Unlike a softbox or a strip light control is minimal with these (and any) umbrellas. Aside from that these are great additions to anyone's lighting kit.
