The main purpose is to eliminate the "pop" when lyrics use words with a "p" or "T" in them. This item is not effective for that purpose in my experience. A sensitive mic such as a nice condenser still has dropout using this filter. You have to back way off like at least 8"-10" or more for it to be effective, I would say buy nylon instead, this mesh is the same size as the grille on my Audio Technica 2020 mic.

This filter performed great, i tested it today with a Neumann U87i with various male and female vocals; the response was crystal clear on the highs and very natural lows, compared to fabric filters which tends to cut a little of the very high end and sometimes resonate with some of the lows specially if someone blows straight into them.

The clamp holds it in the right position without having to overtighten the thumbscrew, the neck also works very fine letting you place it wherever you need, although I think a longer neck would make the whole thing better.
