The ZeRO SL Mk II from Novation is a DAW and plug-in control surface that is equally suited to live or studio use. A large back lit LED display and LED ringed encoders provides visual feedback of control information, while ultra-quick mapping of all 56 knobs, faders and buttons is managed by the included Automap 3 PRO software.
All 8 faders and 16 knobs are touch sensitive, and the moment one is touched, the display shows the names and values on that row and puts brackets around the controller that is currently selected. A dedicated "Speed Dial" can be used to change the value of any parameter the mouse cursor is positioned over without necessitating any assignment.
Eight soft-feel drum pads are fully assignable to any parameter with the Automap software and provide a convenient way for sketching out beats or triggering samples. The controller can be mounted in a 19" rack or used as a desk-top controller or angled for performance using legs that are included with the unit. The unit is powered via the computers USB bus or by using an optional external power supply.

Comments about Novation ZeRO SL Mk II - DAW and Plug-In Control Surface:
This controller is everything they said it would be. I don't know how I lived without an automap controller before. Auto map makes everything easier. I use it in Reason 5, and Cubase with a lot of different VSTi plugins. I can literally have full functionality of my virtual synths with the lid closed on my laptop. My only complaints are that not all controls (for certain plugins) are available to Automap (even though they are MIDI controllable), and that automap only works with your virtual synths while being hosted by a DAW, NOT in stand alone mode. It will control them but you will have to do it the old way, by setting the CC control numbers, and there is no parameter labeling.

Comments about Novation ZeRO SL Mk II - DAW and Plug-In Control Surface:
So far I'm finding this product very useful. I feel like I got a lot of bang for my buck. The auto map works great with Logic Pro, so far (If you have problems, novations website has tutorials).... The only thing I don't really like is the fact that the faders are not motorized, but I guess, for the price, I can't complain too much.
