The Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom is a super-wide angle lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.5 throughout the entire zoom range, ensuring high image quality. The maximum aperture of f/3.5 allows enough light in to make it a great choice for indoor shooting as well as landscapes and creative portraiture.
With its wide angle view from 102.4 degrees, this lens can empower the photographer to produce creative images with exaggerated perspective. This lens has a Super Multi-Layer coating that coating reduces flare and ghosting. With a HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor), the lens operates quietly and at high speed in both autofocus and full-time manual modes.
The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system which eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the Petal-type hood, reducing extraneous light and reducing internal reflection.
Two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent correction of color aberration. Four aspherical lenses provide correction for distortion and allow compact and lightweight construction. This Sigma lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches (24cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.6.
Note! Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with 35mm SLR cameras or digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size

I pondered for quite a while before making the choice to go with this comparatively new member of the UWA zoom line up for APS-C sensor bodies. The 3 lenses I had in the mix were the 10-22 Canon EF-S, the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and this lens. After reading numerous reviews on all three I made the plunge. I am very glad I did.
Firstly, let me say that the only reason I gave the lens 4 stars was the due to the fairly pronounced CA between f3.5 and 5.0. Now, let me also say I'm not a huge pixel peeper and I have no intention on framing 100% crop images from this lens at any point. However, in fairness, I felt this issue needed to be known and in this case knocked the lens down one notch. If I could have gone 4.5 stars I would have.
Now on to the good things and there are many. Build quality is great. This lens feels much more rugged than the Canon. Maybe not like the tank built Tokina but right up there. The HSM focus system is super fast and accurate on my T1I. Once you're at f5.6-f11 the images this lens produces are great. The fixed f3.5 aperture is a plus also. While it is 2/3 of a stop slower than the Tokina, it's 2/3 of a stop faster than the long end of the Canon 10-22, a good compromise with a much wider FL range than the Tokina 11-16mm.
Kudos also to Sigma for not only including a very nice padded case, but also the lens shade and a 4 year warranty.
Overall, this lens is a winner and while you may not use it every day, you will be happy with your results.

I needed a lens to expand my work to include real estate photography. It is really great for the price. It is slightly soft sometimes but it is hardly an issue.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
I'm using this lens for landscape photography. I find the 3.5 aperture very useful in low light. Tonight I'm about to do my first star trail with this lens and I can't wait to see the results. I also have the Sigma 17 - 70mm which opens up to 2.8. I do wish they would have kept that with this lens though.
I am a fan of Sigma because of the sturdy construction.

Using this lens for the super-wide angle shots at weddings. Great shots! About the fastest lens out there in this zoom range. No optical stabilization, but that is not a problem with a super-wide.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
Bought this as to accompany my Sigma 10mm fisheye as that lens sometimes is a bit too extreme. The 10-20 works well, have a consistent output and of course that awesome trademark Sigma sharpness, color and contrast. The Sigma colors and superior sharpness over Canon are the main reasons why I now have switched all my lenses from Canon L-series to Sigma. Love what Sigma do with colors and contrast! The 10-20 is well built and the zoom-ring have a perfect feel with no lens creep at all. Like the 3.5 aperture through the whole range. Some people claim the older 10-20mm 4-5.6 is sharper but that would have been too dark for me. As with many Sigma lenses this also needed some micro-adjustment though which is an easy fix on the Canon 7D. It´s tack sharp now. Auto-focus response is quick and spot-on. At 10mm there is a little border CA/green fringing and of course some distortion as to be expected with such a super wide-angle. But nothing major. Have done some indoor work with it so far and I´m very pleased with the results, can´t wait to shoot some landscapes now...

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
For APS-C sensors you won't get a better wide angle lens than this. Canon makes a pretty decent one and I think the 10mm of this one is equally as good.
The one thing that I've found to work around is the focus at about 3 feet and f/3.5.
You have infinity focus at about 3 feet when shooting at f/3.5, then at about 2.9 feet you need to focus it just slightly.
So basically from 2-3 feet you're going to get a weird focus range. It's like half infinity, not quite 3 feet, not quite 2. Since most people use this for landscape or something that is infinity focus this isn't an issue. But the lens is very wide and that focus is hard to tell until you blow up the video or picture to 100%.
If you're shooting video with it, then be careful of this one work around you'll need to watch out for. Several shots from one scene were soft focus because of this.
Other than that, what else could you ask for? A 3.5 10mm-20mm lens is hard to manufacture well so A+ to sigma for nailing it.
All shots through the entire zoom are super clean and crisp. Just watch out for manual focus at 2.5 feet - use auto-focus and you'll be fine.

I already have the 28-300mm L series (great glass). This will take care of everything below the 28mm need. Water falls, landscapes, architecture, etc.
