Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
Home office use. I had a Brother MFC-9700 that finally wore out after 9 years and many, many thousands of print/fax cycles. The MFC-8890 is faster, quieter and overall a superior product. The one and only small drawback so far is that I can't seem to change the fax answering to more than 4 rings.

I've had this printer for about 6 weeks with no problem. The wireless set up was quick and easy. Good instructions. I would recommend to a friend.

I had the 8480DN. It looks and works the same. This one copies duplex which is what we needed. I use compatible toners which work fine for my purposes.
I took the old one home to replace my Brother MFC that worked in my office for 8 years and home for 3.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
This has all of the features I was looking for in a small office all-in-one, most importantly full duplexing capabilities. I've long been a fan of Brother products for their value, quality, reliability, and durability, and this is the best one I've purchased yet. Setup was a breeze, and now 5 of us in our office are utilizing it for network faxing, scanning, & printing. It's also our main copier. My only (minor) gripe is that the paper output "cubby" (for lack of a better word) can be a little awkward to remove paper from. On the other hand, its design prevents paper from being pushed off and slid behind the unit or onto the floor or so on....

We're currently using the product as a dedicated copier and occasional printing, but in the future we plan to use it as a fax and scanner. The wireless printing feature works impeccably, and the copies are great as well. We haven't found any flaws with it either.

This machine is great for the price. I have a small office that primarily uses the print and scanning functions. Set-up was extremely easy and the print quality is very good. I would highly recommend it. I haven't played with all the other functions, but I am highly satisfied with the ones I mainly use.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
I've had the previous model and was a bit disappointed at the longevity. These Brother printers are no nonsense, work well, have most all the latest software-based technology tools with the exception of eprint. I also like that this one is wireless. It was a bit difficult however to configure, as it was difficult to find the mac address for my wireless security. I finally found it in the reports menu on the printer itself.

Had MFC-8460N before, now bought MFC-8890DW. Working horses, zero problem, fast printing, simple to navigate (this is what I like), zero hassle, good toner lifetime, added memory for faster wireless data transfer - excellent ! Good price for the product. Better to use Brother toner product, not "after-the market".

We were so tired of having problems with our HP Ink Jet Printer. We were printing less & less & the print cartriges would dry up & not print well just when we wanted to print something important. We have a home based part time business. Nice to have the all in one to save space & get rid of the fax which is so rarely used these days. Copies are clean & clear. We researched for a couple of weeks before we purchased. We felt we got the best product for our money & use. Set up was easy. We havn't tried scanning yet. In a perfect world we would have liked it to be smaller. So far no complaints & would buy again.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
fax works very well - had to fax in duplex mode 70 pages absolutely no issues though scanning on high resolution takes time. With the included software one can fax docs, etc. without printing them first - very basic, generic add in but it is nice to have. Does work rather well too.
printing works very well.
scanning works well although a bit on the slower side for higher resolution.
Didn't try copy just yet.
Software included works very well and is very intuitive. It follows exact flow off the lcd display on the printer. That said, some of the naming conventions used were not documented well and i had to spend a bit of time to find what they do mean.
Overall fantastic MFC machine that does exactly what it should.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
In the past, we have not had great luck with printers (Dell, HP). They were ok devices, but there was always some issue of jamming, poor network capabilities, difficult setup, etc. However, we have had no issues with the Brother MFC-8890DW! We were a little leery at first due to the large number of features. But installation went smoothly. The Brother is shared among several of us using a wired network connection. The included software quickly recognized the Brother printer on the network and the printer was added to Windows 7 (64 bit) with no issues. The print & copy quality is great. Scanning is good as well but we have only used it a couple of times (scanning directly to an attached USB flash drive and sending via email). Faxing function is great. For faxing, we have attached the Brother printer to an Ooma VOIP line with no problems. The Brother software is easy to use and extensive. We like the ability to change settings and see the front panel using a browser and the printers IP address (since we are using it in network mode). The front display panel is bright with good sized fonts and informative messaging. The standard 64MB RAM is a good size, but we added an additional 512MB RAM (install was easy & without issues). This is the best printer we have ever owned and we have had absolutely no issues. we highly recommend this multifunction printer. On a side note, B&H pricing, [...] was great!

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
I have personally used the predecessor to this unit (MFC-8860DN) for more than four years and have installed several 8890s at client sites. The print engine is reliable and long-lasting, with separate toner and imaging drums that won't break the bank when you replace them. I have installed and serviced several Brother printers that share the same print engine; these have gone through more than 200,000 impressions each and are still going strong.
That said, the scanner/copier functions of this unit are good but not exceptional - the ADF can be a bit touchy with curled/bent paper and is prone to jamming with large jobs in humid weather. The included software allows scanning to networked computers and will scan double sided documents w/o problems (I have only used it on Windows networks). The scanner works in 24 bit mode (RGB w/8 bits/color) and the resolution and accuracy are reasonable for a business-grade product. The software allows prescans as well as adjustment of scan size, color and resolution.
As others have noted, envelope printing can be problematic, but quality stock and care in feeding the envelope will go a long way toward fixing most problems. Even so, some envelopes come out wrinkled and curly, so, if you need a production envelope printer, look elsewhere - or print on label stock and transfer to the envelopes.
Printouts can be curly at times, especially in humid weather. Keep your paper stored in a dry place and only load as much as you will need for a week or two and this problem will be minimized. This is true of most laser printers - the heat fusing process is the culprit here.
This is not a small printer - it is tall and heavy and uses a fair amount of desk space.
I don't use the FAX function very often, but when I do it is adequate for the task - the duplex scan/receive is especially nice.
As others have mentioned, this is not a quiet printer - the fan and paper drive are noisy and it emits some creaks and squeaks when warming up and cooling down.
Regardless, this is the only multifunction printer I can wholeheartedly recommend to a client - the pluses far outweigh the minuses and reliability is top-notch.

I bought this based on reviews, functions, and abilities.
Although it isn't in color it doesn't bother my printing needs. I have another color inkjet in those cases.
In the few cases I have used it, I think it will prove to be very reliable as my business and printing needs grow.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
This printer is used in our office by one of our senior corporate officers who loves to hit print. I just replaced a previous (similar looking--older model) Brother printer that has lasted over 120,000 pages and still works, but is technically showing its age. Some of the parts have run past their expected life and cost more to replace than it is worth. Considering the cost of the MFC line of Brother printers, they are great 100,000 "mile" printers and can be pushed a bit more, but if you want reliability, replace them around 120,000 pages.

In service about two weeks. Replaced Fujitsu Scan Snap which was having multiple page problems and a worn out HP Laser Jet 3100. We use 8890 to FAX, Scan and copy. Really like the duplex feature, scanning works good as does the copy feature. Haven't had long enough to determine operating cost. Installation was OK. Had a few minor problems getting around the Norton firewall. Instructions were pretty clear. Really like flair top design as the small footprint takes up less space.

Comments about Brother MFC-8890DW All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer:
After using inkjet printers for years, I decided the cost of ink was just not worth it anymore. The Brother MFC-8890DW is just what I needed. I do not believe in giving 5 stars because nothing is perfect although this product gets very close. It works great with my Windows 7 laptop, my Mac Pro and my iMac. The print quality is excellent. I have not used the wireless feature as of yet but using a ethernet connection to my home network works extremely well. The included software drivers need to be updated and it's easily done on the Brother web site. Set up was simple. After the unit arrived, I had it up and running within 20 minutes or so.I have only had this printer for about a month now so I cannot speak about toner usage. Scanning is easy and accurate. Copying documents is as you would expect it to be. I have a phone line hooked up but I have not sent or received a fax as of this writing. I also purchase the MFC-8460N optional paper tray which adds an additional 250 sheets of paper. This printer has a large footprint and is rather tall with the added paper tray but this is not an issue for me. The automatic document feeder works very well. Envelope printing can be somewhat tricky but I have not found as many issues as other reviewers have had.All in all this is a great product with all the features that I was looking for. I am very satisfied. B&H gave me a great deal [...].

We bought this product for it's scanning capability. We're sharing it on our network with several desktops. It works great!! The ADF holds 50 pages. 100 pages would be perfect for our environment.
